If you thought AMC’s prestige horror anthology series “The Terror” was dead and buried, think again. The show is proving to be just as resilient as the monsters it features.
Fresh off wrapping its third season just last month, “The Terror” is officially locked in for Season 4. Executive producer David W. Zucker confirmed the new season during a chat with ScreenRant, revealing a major milestone: “We’ve just closed the deal on the book we’re gonna develop next.”
While the specific novel remains secret, this news is a massive victory for horror fans. After a grueling, multi-year hiatus between seasons two and three, not only is the series officially moving forward, but Zucker’s update implies we won’t have to wait another half-decade to see it.
A History of Historic Horrors
“The Terror” has carved out a brilliant niche by pairing meticulous historical periods with deeply unsettling supernatural dread inspired by true tales. Here is how the anthology has evolved:
Season 1 (2018): Based on Dan Simmons’ bestselling novel, following the frigid, doomed decks of a Victorian-era sailing ship stalked by an ancient Arctic beast.
Season 2: Infamy (2019): An original story centering on a malevolent, shape-shifting Japanese folklore entity haunting a WW2 internment camp.
Season 3: Devil in Silver (2026): Based on Victor LaValle’s acclaimed novel, the six-episode season follows Pepper (played by Dan Stevens), a working-class mover wrongfully committed to the grim New Hyde Psychiatric Hospital. There, he has to survive corrupt doctors, broken patients, and a terrifying creature that might literally be the Devil himself.
A Legacy of Prestige Talent
Season 3 raised the bar for the anthology’s casting. It paired the talented Dan Stevens (The Guest, Abigail) with a powerhouse ensemble. It includes Judith Light, CCH Pounder, Aasif Mandvi, John Benjamin Hickey, and Stephen Root.

By securing the rights to another novel, the team is returning to the formula that made the previous seasons such critical darlings. The only question left is: which historical nightmare are they dropping us into next?
