Collecting dolls is usually a harmless hobby. Collecting women, however, gets the police involved.
Cinephobia Releasing has officially acquired North American rights to The Dollmaker, the latest eerie feature from director Jose Maria Cicala (Shadow of the Cat, Sola). The film is set to slash its way onto VOD and digital platforms this August.
A dark mix of macabre suspense and surreal art-house horror, the film unfolds in a quiet village. A charming young man leads a simple life. He tends to his mother and works his shift at the local video store. Oh, and obsessively collecting dolls. But when local women begin vanishing without a trace, newly arrived Inspector Porter targets him as his prime suspect.
High Praise & Festival Hype
”The Dollmaker is creepy, bloody and surreal… and I loved every minute of it,” said Ray Murray, President of Cinephobia Releasing. “Cinephobia Releasing is excited to bring this original film to both art and genre audiences.”
The film made its US debut at the prestigious Screamfest in Los Angeles. There, lead actor Rodrigo Noya took home the award for Best Actor for his uncomfortably unsettling performance.
Noya is joined by Alejo Garcia Pintos, Arturo Puig, and Griselda Sanchez. Mario Alarcón, Alejandra Baldoni, Guillermo Zapata, Eduardo Calvo, Santiago Domínguez, and Silvia Petri round out the cast.
