If you’ve spent the last two decades listening to Cursive or The Good Life, you already know musician-turned-filmmaker Tim Kasher. He’s a master of dark, neurotic, and uncomfortably intimate storytelling. Now, the indie-rock frontman is bringing that signature confessional dread back to the big screen.
Dark Sky Films has officially acquired Kasher’s psychological horror-thriller Who’s Watching. And get this, it’s set for a digital and select theatrical release across the United States this Fall.
So, to make the rollout even sweeter for fans of Kasher’s music and film work, the director is hitting the road for an intimate preview tour ahead of the digital drop. Select theatrical events will feature an advance screening of the movie. It will be followed by a live acoustic set and Q&A with Kasher himself.
Camera, Action, Stalking
Who’s Watching stars Zachary Ray Sherman (Under the Banner of Heaven, A Desert) in a performance that already snagged him the Best Actor award at the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival.
In the film, eccentric musician and aspiring filmmaker Caleb (Sherman) becomes dangerously obsessed with his new coworker, Krista. Armed with a camera, he secretly begins documenting every corner of her life under the guise of making her the subject of his next movie. As his fixation grows, the boundary between passive observer and active participant completely dissolves. He’s plunged into a dark spiral of surveillance, control, and paranoia. As the lens stays focused, an unsettling question emerges: who is really watching who?
Rounding out the cast are genre favorites Gracie Gillam (Superhost, Fright Night), Olivia Luccardi (It Follows, Soft & Quiet), and Steve Berg (Don’t Worry Darling). Kasher, Maher Jafari, Liz Renner, and Josh Ethier produce.
A Decade in the Dark
“Tim Kasher has spent his career exploring relationships and the darker corners of human behavior through his music, and Who’s Watching brings those same themes to the screen in a deeply unsettling way,” said Greg Newman, Executive Vice President of Dark Sky Films. “Anchored by Zachary Ray Sherman’s extraordinary performance, it’s a smart, provocative thriller that lingers long after it ends.”
For Kasher, bringing this particular nightmare to life was a marathon effort.
“This film has been over a decade in the making, evolving through countless drafts before becoming the story it is today,” Kasher shared. “I’m incredibly proud of what we created, and the performances brought it to life in ways I could never have imagined. I’m thrilled to finally share this creepy story with audiences and to bring it on the road.”
