Some family baggage refuses to stay buried—no matter how many decades pass.
Shudder has unveiled the unsettling first teaser for The Cycle, the latest supernatural nightmare from director Jordan Downey (The Head Hunter, V/H/S/Beyond). The film is officially set to make its exclusive streaming debut on Shudder just in time for Halloween.
A Cold Case That Hits Too Close to Home
The film stars Deborah Ann Woll (Daredevil: Born Again, Escape Room). Her life is turned upside down when her estranged father’s body is discovered at a crime scene. The catch? He’s been missing for thirty-six years. Naturally, this unleashes a torrent of supernatural horror proving some cold cases are better left untouched.
Co-starring alongside Woll is Jeffrey Donovan (Burn Notice, Villains). Downey co-wrote the screenplay with creative partner Kevin Stewart (The Head Hunter). James Harris of Tea Shop Productions (47 Meters Down) and Peter Heller are producing.
“We are so excited about The Cycle,” said Harris. “Jordan has crafted such an original story that is gonna excite audiences. For us, he has the ability to be the next great genre filmmaker, and we couldn’t wait to make this movie.”
A Horror Royalty Lead
Woll first sank her teeth into genre fame as the vampire Jessica Hamby in HBO’s “True Blood.” However, she has since built a resume across film, television, and gaming. Beyond portraying Karen Page across the Marvel Cinematic Universe and starring in the Escape Room franchise, Woll earned massive praise as Laufey (Kratos’ wife) in God of War: Ragnarök—a role she’ll soon headline in her own spinoff game.
With Downey’s proven knack for atmospheric dread and a stellar lead in Woll, The Cycle is shaping up to be one of autumn’s most anticipated horror drops.
