Legendary director Ridley Scott, behind films like Gladiator, Alien, and Blade Runner, is returning to the dystopian genre. His latest film, the highly anticipated cinematic adaptation of The Dog Stars, is set to hit theaters nationwide this month.

Based on Peter Heller’s acclaimed 2012 novel, the film takes place in a haunting, stripped-down future.  A devastating pandemic has wiped out the vast majority of human civilization. Survivors are left to navigate a broken world. However, they must also face the threat of “Reapers”—ruthless, nomadic scavengers who prey on those trying to rebuild.

The Story

At the center of the narrative is Hig (played by Jacob Elordi). He’s a civilian pilot who survived the deadly flu that claimed his wife and destroyed the world as he knew it. Living out of an abandoned air park with a gruff, heavily armed companion and his loyal dog, Hig spends his days patrolling the skies in a 1956 Cessna. He desperately searches for signs of hope, humanity, and survival. However, a mysterious radio transmission breaks through his plane’s receiver. He now must risk everything on a perilous flight beyond the point of no return to see if a better life truly exists.

A Powerhouse Creative Team

Screenwriters Mark L. Smith (The Revenant, The Boys in the Boat) and Christopher Wilkinson (Nixon, Ali) adapted Heller’s celebrated source material into a tense, emotionally grounded narrative that blends visceral survival action with deep psychological drama.

The film boasts a stellar ensemble cast led by Jacob Elordi (Euphoria, Saltburn). The cast also includes Margaret Qualley (The Substance) and Josh Brolin (Dune, No Country for Old Men).

Witness the fight for survival. The Dog Stars opens exclusively in theaters nationwide on August 28. Get your tickets now.
