If you thought Pennywise was terrifying on a standard multiplex screen, prepare to experience Stephen King’s cosmic nightmare wrapped completely around your head.
This summer, Warner Bros. and immersive entertainment giant Cosm are bringing Andy Muschietti’s 2017 blockbuster IT to life in a brand-new, heart-stopping format beginning August 28, fans in Los Angeles, Dallas, and Atlanta can plunge face-first into the sewers of Derry via Cosm’s state-of-the-art “Shared Reality” venues (with a Detroit venue opening date to be announced soon).
Horror Goes “Beyond the Frame”
Stephen King’s iconic 1986 novel was first adapted into the beloved 1990 ABC miniseries starring Tim Curry. Then, Muschietti’s 2017 theatrical triumph—starring Bill Skarsgård alongside Jaeden Martell, Sophia Lillis, and Finn Wolfhard—shattered box office records. Now, it’s becoming the very first horror title to get the full Cosm treatment.
Cosm venues aren’t your typical movie theaters. It features a staggering 87-foot-diameter, 12K+ LED dome paired with spatial audio. The experience uses fulldome production technology to project the film beyond the traditional screen. It surrounds the audience with dynamic environmental effects. In short? When Pennywise reaches out from the dark, it’s going to feel like he’s standing right next to your seat.
The Ultimate Test for Horror Fans
Cosm previously found massive success with The Matrix, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. But turning those same 12K domes over to a shape-shifting, child-eating clown is a whole different beast.
