Following the massive $869 million global success of last year’s Jurassic World Rebirth, Universal Pictures is officially doubling down on prehistoric mayhem. A brand-new Jurassic World feature is officially in development. However, the franchise is preparing for a major behind-the-scenes shakeup.

The Shakeup

Director Gareth Edwards, who brought the franchise back with Rebirth, will not be returning to the director’s chair for the upcoming sequel, Deadline reports. The departure reportedly comes down to mutual creative differences. Edwards is now shifting his focus back to original sci-fi projects. Now, Universal launches a director search for the next chapter.

Back for Another Fight

The core creative engine remains very much intact, however. Master screenwriter David Koepp (Jurassic Park, Jurassic World Rebirth) is returning to write the script. And get this: stars Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali are all expected to reprise their roles.

With Universal eyeing a potential production start as early as next year, the hunt for a new filmmaker to guide the franchise forward is officially on.

If you need a refresher on the new era of dino-thrills before the next sequel arrives, Jurassic World Rebirth is currently playing on Prime Video. Stay tuned as more details, including the movie’s new director, emerge!
