Thirty years after revolutionizing horror with shaky cameras and stick figures, The Blair Witch Project co-creator Eduardo Sánchez and producer Gregg Hale are heading back to the genre that made them legends.
Swapping Maryland woods for the hyper-curated world of social media, the duo is teaming up for The Influencer Project. This fresh found-footage nightmare promises to turn the modern fixation on digital fame into pure, unadulterated terror.
When “Going Live” Turns into a Fight for Survival
Inspired by real events, the film stars real-life fashion and beauty influencer Chiara King as a version of herself. The plot follows King as she travels to Copenhagen alongside a documentary crew tasked with pulling back the curtain on her glamorous online existence. However, broadcasting every move to millions of devoted followers comes with a deadly price. As an obsessive stalker begins closing in, the documentary spirals into a horrific fight for survival. One that blurs the line between curated content and crime scene evidence.
A Global Collaboration Packed with Genre Heavyweights
Marking the feature directorial debut of Mike Nybroe, The Influencer Project is an international co-production between Hades Films and Denmark’s Point Neuf. Nybroe directs from a script he co-wrote with Lars Ap and Anders Jon Petersen. Sánchez and Hale produce alongside Alex Hertzberg and Ahmet Zappa.
“30 years ago, fear was a supernatural force in the woods. Today, it’s with you constantly, in social media — the possibility of opening up your life to strangers who wish you harm. What could be more terrifying?” Sanchez and Hale said in a recent statement.
As the filmmakers noted, fear used to be a supernatural force lurking in the dark woods; today, it lives right in our pockets. Opening your life to millions of strangers means inviting the predators right along with the followers.
The Influencer Project lands in theaters on October 2, 2026.
