Amazon MGM Studios is bringing Colleen Hoover’s explosive, New York Times best-selling novel Verity to the big screen this fall. The adaptation is directed by Michael Showalter (The Idea of You, The Big Sick) from a screenplay written by Nick Antosca (Brand New Cherry Flavor). This R-rated psychological thriller promises an intense cinematic exploration of obsession, deception, and truth.
Here’s more goodness. Fans won’t have to wait long to experience the dark drama unfold. The film premieres exclusively in theaters nationwide this October.
A Remote Estate Holds Chilling Confessions
The gripping story centers on Lowen Ashleigh, played by Dakota Johnson. She is a struggling writer hired to complete the remaining books of a successful series authored by the acclaimed Verity Crawford, portrayed by Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway. Moving into the isolated estate to organize Verity’s notes, Lowen stumbles upon an unpublished, deeply unsettling manuscript that appears to be Verity’s raw autobiography. However, as Lowen reads through horrifying confessions regarding Verity’s husband, Jeremy (Josh Hartnett), the line between reality and fiction blurs. Soon, Lowen is plunged into a deadly web of manipulation and dangerous attraction.
A Star-Studded Creative Team Behind the Mystery
Produced by a formidable lineup including Antosca, Showalter, Stacey Sher, Jordana Mollick, Alex Hedlund, Hathaway, and Hoover herself, the film brings together top-tier Hollywood talent behind and in front of the camera.
The supporting cast features compelling performances from Ismael Cruz Córdova and Brady Wagner. Dakota Johnson, Kerry Orent, and Lauren Levine executive produce.
With its blend of explicit tension, psychological games, and shocking secrets, Verity is set to be one of the autumn season’s most talked-about theatrical events when it premieres on October 2.
