Rolling out right on time for International Roller Coaster Day 2027, GUNGNIR Publishing has officially announced a thrilling new deal with award-winning screenwriter and veteran entertainment journalist Jeff Spry. Together, they are developing and launching Killride. It’s a terrifying sci-fi horror graphic novel that turns the familiar high-speed thrills of amusement parks into a haunting, supernatural nightmare.
Spearheaded by GUNGNIR Founder and Publisher Matthew Medney alongside Eisner-nominated executive editor Steve Orlando, the project promises to blend pulse-pounding suspense with high-concept body-and-steel horror.
The Tragedy Behind the World’s Tallest Coaster
The story follows Michael Wylde. He was once celebrated as the undisputed rockstar of roller coaster engineering. His career came to a screeching, devastating halt ten years ago when a fatal accident on one of his rides claimed twelve lives. The victims included his young fiancée. Now a reclusive shell of his former self, Wylde is coaxed back into the spotlight by an eccentric billionaire. Why? To design the ultimate attraction for Pandemonia, a radical, elite amusement park built specifically for rides deemed far too dangerous for the public. The result of his obsession is the SoulSteeler, a 666-foot-tall, shape-shifting coaster. However, it is infused with its creator’s grief, guilt, and rage.
A Sentient Abomination Demands a Sacrifice
It quickly becomes clear that grief acts as a deadly summoning spell. As the colossal metal cathedral rises, the SoulSteeler begins manifesting malevolent attributes, psychologically tormenting its riders and inflicting gruesome fatalities. When Wylde raises safety concerns, he is promptly banished from the project under threat of death. Soon, he realizes his offspring has become a sentient, demonic entity hungry for human souls. Wylde must clandestinely infiltrate Pandemonia during its grand opening on Halloween night. He faces a terrifying race against time to permanently dismantle the machine before his creation destroys him and everyone inside the park.

Spry, who has carried the core concept of Killride for nearly two decades, views the graphic novel as a dark cautionary tale about technology pushed past its limits, runaway obsession, and humanity’s unquenchable thirst for extreme stimulation. To bring this vertigo-inducing world to life, GUNGNIR has assembled an exceptional international artistic team. The graphic novel features dizzying, dynamic line art by Canadian illustrator Scott B. Henderson, paired with lush, hypnotic colors by Brazilian artist Jao Canola.
