For author Kevin J. Anderson, the project offered a unique opportunity to blend cosmic horror with classic Marvel lore. Designed with a heavy Lovecraftian influence, the narrative revives major adversaries from Strange’s rogues’ gallery. It also includes an obscure villain who has remained absent from comic pages since being created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in 1964’s Strange Tales #122.
