The iconic dystopian universe of Blade Runner is gearing up for its next major evolution. During a dedicated panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Prime Video officially unveiled the first teaser trailer for “Blade Runner 2099.” First announced back in 2022.
Executive-produced by original 1982 film director Ridley Scott, the series offers a first glimpse of the next chapter in the war between humanity and replicants.
Premiere Date and Global Release
Sci-fi enthusiasts will not have to wait long to binge the entire story. All eight episodes of the limited series are scheduled to premiere on Thursday, November 26, exclusively on Prime Video.
An Ensemble Cast Led by Sci-Fi Veterans
Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh leads the series alongside Hunter Schafer. Yeoh stars as Olwen, an aging replicant nearing the end of her lifespan, while Schafer plays Cora, a desperate fugitive who assumes a new identity as a blade runner.
Dimitri Abold and Lewis Gribben round out the cast, which also includes Kathlyn Rose Downey, Daniel Rigby, and Johnny Harris.
Navigating a Reborn Dystopian Nightmare
Set five decades after the events of Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049, the narrative reveals a transformed Los Angeles. One rebuilt by non-human forces. The plot centers on Cora. She accepts one final dangerous identity in a desperate attempt to stop running from her past. While forced into an uneasy partnership with Olwen, the duo embarks on a lethal hunt for a runaway who holds a secret that could destroy their fragile society.
The Creative Powerhouses Behind the Camera
Showrunner Silka Luisa serves as executive producer alongside Ridley Scott. Jonathan Van Tulleken directed the first two episodes and executive produces alongside a stacked team including Michael Green, Tom Spezialy, Cynthia Yorkin, and Isa Dick Hackett. Expanding a Legendary Franchise Framework
“Blade Runner 2099“ marks the seventh official installment in the legendary cyberpunk franchise. The television series follows the original 1982 classic, the 2017 feature Blade Runner 2049, and a trio of canonical short films released in 2017.
