‘The Conjuring’ Expands into Interactive Horror with Netflix’s ‘The Conjuring: Unspoken’
One of the most financially successful and terrifying cinematic franchises in modern horror history is getting a brand-new video game. Based on The Conjuring universe, the game is officially titled The Conjuring: Unspoken. The project is set to anchor Netflix’s high-profile slate for the upcoming Halloween season.
Over a Decade of Cinematic Terror Enters an Interactive Era
Since director James Wan launched the original film in 2013, The Conjuring universe has expanded into a sprawling, interconnected blockbuster franchise. It spans 10 feature films, including box-office hits like Annabelle and The Nun. The series has grossed over $2 billion globally, cementing its place as a cornerstone of modern horror cinema.
The films have traditionally relied on suffocating atmospheric tension, sudden jump scares, and haunting sound design to terrify audiences in their seats. The Conjuring: Unspoken shifts players from passive observers to active participants. Instead of watching investigators, horror fans will soon face malevolent entities firsthand.
Investigating the Haunted Red Lion Inn
Moving beyond the familiar suburban haunted houses of past movies, The Conjuring: Unspoken introduces an eerie new setting. Welcome to the Red Lion Inn. Driven by narrative, the game challenges players to step into a dark paranormal case and help a family in crisis.
“What is haunting the Red Lion Inn? Scan for paranormal signals and investigate the eerie events troubling a grieving family in this cinematic game.”
Gameplay will focus heavily on investigation mechanics, requiring players to utilize specialized paranormal equipment to detect electromagnetic signals. It will also analyze thermal anomalies and unearth the tragic history binding an ancient entity to the inn. While it remains unconfirmed whether Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson will reprise their roles, the game’s investigative tone aligns with the movies’ classic case-file structure.
Accessible Cloud Gaming Platform and Release Window
Rather than operating strictly as a downloadable mobile title, The Conjuring: Unspoken is being built to leverage Netflix’s expanding cloud gaming technology. This architecture lets subscribers stream the game directly to television screens or web browsers. It uses a smartphone or mobile device as an interactive controller.
Included free with standard Netflix subscriptions, The Conjuring: Unspoken will premiere this October. However, Netflix has not yet announced the exact day. The release offers fans the ultimate interactive fix while they await the franchise’s next big-screen chapter, The Conjuring: First Communion, set to hit theaters in September 2027.
