Filming has officially wrapped on Twilight of the Dead, the highly anticipated final chapter in horror legend George A. Romero’s iconic zombie saga. First announced in 2021, the feature is based on an original treatment Romero wrote before his 2017 passing. Magenta Light Studios has acquired North American distribution rights and plans to release the film in theaters across the U.S. and Canada.

An Ensemble Cast Trapped in the Apocalypse

Kate Beckinsale (Underworld) and Betty Gabriel (Get Out) lead the cast. They are joined by Abigail London and John D. Hickman (Becky). The story unfolds on a decimated Earth. The last remnants of humanity are caught between desperate, warring human factions and a rapidly evolving undead threat.

Iconic FX Leadership Behind the Camera

Directing duo Doron and Yoav Paz (Jeruzalem, The Golem) helmed the production. Legendary makeup artist Greg Nicotero (The Walking Dead) is behind the practical effects. Nicotero shares a long history with the late filmmaker. He previously crafted groundbreaking effects for classic Romero’s Day of the Dead, Monkey Shines, and Land of the Dead.

Honoring a Master’s Vision

Taking over the reins of Romero’s final story comes with enormous weight for the directors.

“Stepping into Romero’s world is the ultimate privilege for any genre filmmaker,” the Paz Brothers said in a joint statement. “This is more than a continuation; it’s a responsibility. We are committed to honoring his voice while delivering a visceral, terrifying, impactful experience for today’s audience that resonates beyond the screen.”

The release date for Twilight of the Dead has not been announced. However, a late 2027 arrival is likely. Feeling nostalgic? Watch Romero’s original classic, Night of the Living Dead, now on Prime Video and Roku.
