In 2003, Robert Kirkman unleashed The Walking Dead onto comic book shop shelves. It forever changed zombie lore and mainstream pop culture. What began as a relentless, black-and-white survival marathon eventually morphed into AMC’s monstrous television juggernaut in 2010. Over the past decade and a half, Kirkman’s epic paved the way for endless stories. It proved that audiences cannot get enough of flesh-eating chaos.
Heroic Brain-Eaters Take Over
Recognizing Kirkman’s storytelling magic early on, Marvel Comics wisely recruited him to orchestrate the legendary Marvel Zombies limited series. Instead of generic background ghouls, Kirkman gleefully transformed Earth’s Mightiest Heroes into grotesque, flesh-obsessed monstrosities. The horrific concept exploded into an immediate fan favorite. It spawned countless gruesome comic sequels and eventually crawled onto the screen in an episode of Disney’s “What If…?”
Fresh Animated Horrors Unleashed
Building on that animated mayhem, Marvel Television and Animation dropped a massive bombshell during their latest New York Comic Con panel. Following the success of the four-part animated miniseries, three brand-new animated Halloween specials are officially heading to Disney+. Fans can look forward to a terrifying trilogy of standalone stories designed to keep the undead party roaring for years.
The Upcoming Halloween Trilogy
The undead onslaught kicks off in 2027 with Marvel Zombies: The Winter Soldier. It will reportedly see Bucky Barnes chopping through relentless zombie swarms. Next, the 2028 special Marvel Zombies: The Fist of Khonshu throws Moon Knight headfirst into supernatural carnage. Finally, 2029 delivers Marvel Zombies: The Last Guardian, which promises to put a mysteriously isolated member of the cosmic crew through absolute hell. Disney intends to drop these spooky treats right on schedule every October, giving horror lovers the ultimate yearly Halloween fix.
You can now stream the first 4 episodes of the MA-rated Marvel Zombies animated event series, which debuted on Disney+ on September 24, 2025. Here’s a look back at the trailer.
