Actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is officially returning to the supernatural realm. The acclaimed “Game of Thrones” star has reportedly signed on to lead MGM+’s television adaptation of the popular horror podcast The Black Tapes, Dread Central reports.

Unraveling the Mysteries of Unexplained Paranormal Cases

Created by Paul Bae and Terry Miles, the original audio drama gained a massive cult following through its investigative style format. The podcast tells its story in an investigative format. The narrative follows journalist Alex Reagan as she profiles renowned paranormal investigator Dr. Richard Strand. Dr. Strand operates as a skeptic dedicated to debunking supernatural phenomena. However, he keeps a private vault of mysterious cases that defy logical explanation. Investigating these unsolved files ultimately drags both characters into a terrifying web of dark events and occult secrets.

A Long Road to Small Screen Production

Hollywood has repeatedly attempted to adapt The Black Tapes for television for nearly a decade. Major networks initially expressed interest in the property back in 2018, with NBC developing an early iteration alongside writer Matthew Arnold. Although that version ultimately stalled, MGM+ has now revived the project. Network executives have not yet confirmed whether any original creative partners are still attached to the upcoming series.

What Lies Ahead for the Upcoming Horror Series

The studio hasn’t revealed official production details, Coster-Waldau’s specific character, or a targeted premiere date. However, horror enthusiasts strongly speculate that Coster-Waldau will portray the enigmatic Dr. Richard Strand. Hopefully, more details will surface soon. In the meantime, we recommend listening to the podcast on its official website.
