Chroma has officially unleashed the debut trailer for The Exit State, director Gabriela Ledesma’s gripping political horror thriller. Fresh off its Screamfest premiere, the movie will land on digital this October.

Dangerous Journey South Toward an Illusory Sanctuary

Set during an authoritarian collapse across the United States, the story follows desperate citizens fleeing south toward Mexico. Seeking refuge inside a neutral safe house, the travelers believe they have finally escaped the surrounding chaos. But they quickly discover their sanctuary hides terrifying secrets, turning survival into a brutal ordeal. As a result, their bid for freedom turns into a high-stakes nightmare with deadly consequences.

Stellar Ensemble Reunites Genre Favorites

The film reunites Weapons cast members Callie Schuttera and Clayton Farris in central roles. Three-time Emmy nominee Sharon Lawrence also joins the cast alongside Josh George and Jeremy D. Howard. The impressive lineup also features Nikki Dixon, Stakiah Lynn Washington, and Cindy Nguyen.

Visionary Crafting Behind the Thrills

Schuttera, George, and Ledesma wrote the feature, and Poison Pictures produced it. Allie Shehorn of Obsession spearheaded the practical special effects and bloody makeup. Music supervisor Trevon Kezios also orchestrated an energetic soundtrack featuring garage punk band The Knitts.

Urgent Realities Driving Modern Horror

Director Gabriela Ledesma shared that the script originated during an unsettling political moment. While conceived as a cautionary tale, real-world events quickly caught up during physical production. As a result, the team abandoned veiled metaphors to create an urgent, unpredictable horror experience. Horror enthusiasts can experience The Exit State on digital platforms starting October 23, or pre-order it now on Apple TV.
