“Stranger Things“ fans just received an incredible, long-awaited gift today. Specifically, Netflix officially ordered a brand-new live-action spinoff series, Variety reports. Titled “Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure,” this highly anticipated show premieres in 2028.
The massive news dropped directly during the annual “Stranger Things Day” celebration. Naturally, November 6 marks the iconic date Will Byers originally vanished back in 1983.
This exciting project becomes the fourth official entry in the growing franchise universe. Previously, the beloved flagship series wrapped up its wild, historic streaming run in late 2025. The expanding universe also includes the animated show “Tales from ’85” and the stage play The First Shadow.
Back to 1955
Meanwhile, plot details for “Other Worlds“ remain delightfully secretive and heavily guarded. However, creators confirmed the series is a vintage 1950s prequel. Specifically, the events take place before The First Shadow and the original series. The storyline also explores the era before Henry Creel gained his terrifying powers. Remarkably, a brief teaser video confirmed the exact setting as 1955 Marion, Nevada. As a result, fans get to explore an entirely fresh sci-fi location far from Hawkins. This desert environment will feature all-new heroes, villains, and strange otherworldly threats.
Powerhouse Creative Team
Matt and Ross Duffer co-created this project alongside gifted writer Kate Trefry. Notably, Trefry previously wrote The First Shadow and now serves as lead showrunner. Additionally, acclaimed director Joe Wright will helm the first three thrilling episodes. Wright executive produces alongside 21 Laps mastermind Shawn Levy.
Production will soon take place across New Mexico’s scenic desert landscapes. The talented creative team is currently launching a massive casting search for new leads.
