It’s never too early to make plans for Halloween decorating or making a funhouse, but you want to add some flair to it to make it memorable. UV and glow-in-the-dark props always add a nice touch but sometimes it’s hard to find some good paint plus you don’t want to shovel out a lot of money. From my experience in building and painting sets and props for live theatre, we always said “Make your own!” and Techno Glow is where you should start!
I want to thank Techno Glow for making this review possible as I feel their products are affordable with endless possibilities for uses. I was sent some chartreuse glow-in-the-dark powder along with aqua, along with a UV flashlight as I planned on using some UV resin for a part of this review. I ended up using a silicone ice cube tray that made the face of “The Scream” by Edvard Munch. I used a mix of UV resin and a bit of aqua powder for the eyes, nose, and mouth which I hardened with the UV flashlight. Then I used some J-B Weld ClearWeld (CLEAR) to mix the chartreuse in it before joining it with the cured UV resin and letting it sit for about an hour.
Above you can see the results! From the left, that’s the unmolded Techno Glow Powder/J-B Weld scream being charged up by the UV flashlight. The middle picture is of the fully charged piece, in person it was hard to make out the aqua but I’m glad on camera it showed. The right picture shows the glow charge dissipating after 2 minutes.
What I like about the powder is that it’s quite fine and mixed very well with the resin. I should note, the resin used sets in 5 minutes and cures in an hour, so the powder did not appear to start separating from the resin, so I’m now sure how it would act in resin that takes longer to cure but for what I used it for, it worked great!
With the powder being fine, it can be mixed in other mediums besides resin. I can see it being used in paints for fun signs welcoming trick-or-treaters, adding some highlights to a spooky ghost decoration. Then comes the possibility of making magical-looking items for your cosplay or making your wargaming/DnD terrain or miniatures stand out at your next session/adventure. If used properly you can really stretch out the uses for these powders, the directions of how to mix ratios they included are a great help as well for future projects.
With multiple uses, decent pricing, and professional/commercial-grade glow pigments at your fingertips, Techno Glow is definitely worth checking out for your next spooky project!
