From the co-director of the acclaimed ‘Good Manners,’ the haunting Brazilian thriller lands on Digital and On Demand today. If you think your morning commute is bad, spare a thought for Edgar Wilson. Dark Star has officially dropped the apocalyptic thriller Bury Your Dead today on Digital and On Demand.

Directed by Marco Dutra (Good Manners), this film is the haunting adaptation of Ana Paula Maia’s novel. It sits comfortably at the deeply unsettling crossroads of Western grit and cosmic dread.

The Ultimate Post-Apocalyptic Relationship Drama

The film stars Brazilian Selton Mello and Marjorie Estiano in a story that asks: How far would you go for love when the world is actively ending?

Edgar Wilson is a roadkill collector who dreams of escaping his bleak, small-town life with Nete, the love of his life. The hitch? Nete decides to skip town and join her family’s apocalyptic cult.

Naturally, Edgar does what any sensible, love-struck guy would do. He teams up with Tomás, a disgraced, excommunicated priest. Together, they hit the desolate backroads for a dangerous, purgatorial road trip to get her back.

As the duo navigates a crumbling civilization plagued by chaos, despair, and a distinct lack of functional infrastructure, Edgar is forced to confront his inner demons. Think Mad Max meets The Leftovers, but with a lot more existential dread and Brazilian flair.

The Festival Hype

Before landing on your favorite streaming platforms today, Bury Your Dead put in some serious miles on the film festival circuit. It made its world premiere at the prestigious Sitges Film Festival, before racking up awards at the BFI London Film Festival and the Tokyo International Film Festival.
