From writer-director Pablo Absento (Shi, Japanese Legends) comes the chilling horror film Bloat. Lionsgate will release this dark tale this March in theaters and on demand.
Starring Ben McKenzie (“Gotham”) and Bojana Novakovic (Birds of Prey), Bloat tells the story of a family’s horrifying ordeal after their young son survives a near-death drowning accident. But their relief turns to terror when they discover a sinister entity has taken hold of the boy. Malcolm Fuller, Sawyer Jones, and Kane Kosugi star in the film from the producer of Searching and Unfriended.
Possessed by a legendary demon from the lake’s depths, the child becomes a vessel for an ancient evil, a Kappa. The family desperately fights to save their son’s soul. However, the malevolent force within him unleashes its wrath, tearing them apart and threatening to destroy everything in its path.
In Asian lore, the Kappa is a terrifying entity found in bodies of water. They are blamed for drowning and sometimes eating their victims. Accounts depict them as green, human-like beings with webbed hands and feet and turtle-like carapaces on their backs.
Witness this heart-pounding battle for survival and the soul of a boy when Bloat arrives in theaters, on-demand, and digital on March 7th.
