If you’ve been sleeping a little too soundly lately, Netflix has the perfect remedy. It has just unleashed the chilling first trailer for The Whisper Man. It’s a star-studded, bone-chilling serial killer thriller set to invade your living room later this summer.

The film is based on Alex North’s 2019 bestselling novel of the same name. It has officially secured a hard R rating for “some bloody violence, disturbing images, suicide, language, and brief sexual references.” You might want to double-check that your front door is locked and the kids are asleep before hitting play.

 A Child Abducted

The nightmare begins in the wake of a sudden tragedy. After his eight-year-old son is mysteriously abducted, a grieving, widowed crime writer is forced to seek help from his estranged father, a retired former police detective.

As they frantically trace the boy’s steps, they stumble upon a connection to a serial killer known as “The Whisper Man.” The killer lured his young victims by whispering at their windows in the dead of night.

A Cast Worth Screaming About

Netflix has assembled an absolute powerhouse of a cast to bring this grim literary mystery to life. The film is led by Adam Scott (Severance), Michelle Monaghan (True Detective), and the legendary Robert De Niro (The Irishman).

Academy Award nominee Michael Keaton (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice), John Carroll Lynch (Zodiac), Hamish Linklater (Midnight Mass), Owen Teague (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes), Will Brill, and Acston Luca Porto fill out the cast.

The Minds Behind the Madness

The creative pedigree off-camera is just as impressive as the faces on-screen. James Ashcroft, who recently turned heads with the gripping thriller The Rule of Jenny Pen, is directing. The script is by Ben Jacoby (The First Omen) and Chase Palmer (Stephen King’s IT).

The Russo Brothers are producing under their banner AGBO (Everything Everywhere All at Once, Extraction), with Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, Michael Disco, and Kassee Whiting producing.

Check out the bone-chilling trailer below, watch it on August 28, and remember: if you hear a whisper outside your window, don’t look.
