The Backrooms proved that internet-spawned creepypastas are absolute box-office gold. Legendary horror illustrator Trevor Henderson is having a massive Hollywood moment. Warner Bros. is already hard at work adapting his Siren Head for theaters. Now, Sony’s TriStar Pictures has officially gotten its claws on Henderson’s other viral nightmare: Cartoon Cat. TriStar has secured the feature film rights and is actively hunting for a director to bring the horror to life.
The Lore: Not Your Average Saturday Morning Cartoon
If you’re expecting a friendly, sweet feline, you are in for a terrible, bloody surprise.
In Henderson’s chilling mythology, Cartoon Cat isn’t just a drawing—it’s an “ancient hollow rot.” This malevolent entity feeds on our collective nostalgia, using human awareness and memories of vintage, golden-age animation as a physical passageway to manifest in our reality and wreak absolute, violent havoc. Needless to say, this is not a family friendly flick.
A Purr-fect Production Team
To ensure this internet legend gets the prestige horror treatment it deserves, TriStar has assembled a stellar crew of genre veterans to produce. Roy Lee (IT, Barbarian, The Ring), Steven Schneider (Paranormal Activity, Insidious), Scott Glassgold (Prospect), J. Todd Harris, Thomas Pettinelli, and Marc Marcum will produce.
TriStar executives Nicole Brown and Malcolm Gray are officially tasked with helming the project. With a pedigree of producers who practically built the modern horror landscape, Cartoon Cat is already turning into a must-see. Keep your eyes peeled. We’ll update you when we know more.
