If you’ve ever played a Far Cry game, you know the franchise’s bread and butter is a charismatic, slightly unhinged antagonist. Now, the upcoming FX series adaptation has found the perfect legend to bring some of that signature chaotic energy to the screen. The incomparable Steve Buscemi is officially joining the cast of the highly anticipated “Far Cry” television series.

Buscemi is set to star alongside co-creator Rob Mac and the previously announced Lizzy Caplan. The series first entered development at FX in late 2025 under the guidance of Fargo mastermind Noah Hawley and Mac. Now, it’s easily one of the most exciting video game adaptations on the horizon.

A New Sandbox of Chaos Each Season

The exact plot details are being guarded like a heavily armed enemy outpost. But if the series is taking the smartest possible route, it will follow the beloved anthology format of video games.

Instead of stretching one storyline thin, each season will feature a completely different cast. It will be a fresh geopolitical nightmare and a brand-new, jaw-dropping setting. The franchise first debuted in 2004. Six mainline games, countless spinoffs, and over 100 million unique players have since made it a legend. It has taken fans from tropical islands and African savannas to post-apocalyptic frontiers. The TV series is poised to bring that same globe-trotting danger to life.

A Cast of Heavyweights

Buscemi’s casting is an absolute coup for the production. The beloved icon has spent decades delivering masterclasses in acting. He’s starred in unforgettable collaborations with the Coen brothers (Fargo, The Big Lebowski) and Quentin Tarantino (Reservoir Dogs), as well as his Emmy-nominated dramatic turns in “Boardwalk Empire” and “The Sopranos.”

And because he is as prolific as he is talented, you’ve likely also spotted him stealing scenes in “Wednesday,” Miracle Workers, or basically half of your favorite Adam Sandler comedies.

Beyond being a cinematic treasure, Buscemi is famously an incredible human being in real life. Before his Hollywood breakthrough, he served as a New York City firefighter with FDNY Engine Co. 55 in Little Italy. In the wake of the tragic events of September 11, 2001, Buscemi quietly returned to his old firehouse. He put his gear back on and worked grueling 12-hour shifts for days alongside other firefighters, digging through the rubble of the World Trade Center. And he did it all while seeking no media attention or praise, just wanting to help his city.

The Creative Coalition

With Hawley and Mac at the helm, the behind-the-scenes pedigree is exceptionally strong. The series will air on FX and stream on Hulu domestically, with a global release on Disney+.

The executive producing team is led by Rob Mac (More Better Productions) and Noah Hawley (26 Keys banner). They are joined by Ubisoft Film & Television, Simon Emanuel, Emilia Serrano, Nick Frenkel, Monica Macer, Peter Calloway, and John Campisi.

With this level of talent both in front of and behind the camera, the “Far Cry series is shaping up to be a must-see. Stay tuned for more casting updates and the official reveal of Season 1’s deadly setting.
