Thirty years ago, Scream didn’t just rewrite the slasher playbook—it completely ripped it up and threw it at us. But while Ghostface was busy asking callers about their favorite scary movies, composer Marco Beltrami was busy inventing what a modern horror movie sounds like.

To celebrate three decades of meta-terror, Varèse Sarabande and Craft Recordings are resurrecting Beltrami’s landmark score with a massive 30th-anniversary reissue. Dropping on August 28, 2026, the release includes a collectible, “blood-soaked” 1-LP vinyl edition featuring an iconic image of Drew Barrymore’s ill-fated Casey Becker, alongside a staggering 40-cue Deluxe “Extended Cut” CD for the ultimate completionist.

The Ultimate Retail Scavenger Hunt

Because a classic slasher franchise loves a high body count, Varèse Sarabande is releasing enough limited-edition colored vinyl variants to make collectors feel like they’re running for their lives. Pick your poison across major retailers:

The Score That Almost Wasn’t

Ironically, when a young Marco Beltrami stepped up to score Wes Craven’s masterpiece, he had never scored—or even seen—a horror movie in his life.

Armed with a tight budget, zero genre preconceptions, and pure instinct, Beltrami skipped the massive Hollywood orchestra in favor of smaller, more intimate, and incredibly unsettling musical arrangements. He turned in 13 minutes of music for the opening sequence, and horror history was made. As director Wes Craven famously recalled in 2012: “We knew in half a minute that we had found our composer… Marco turned out to be a fountain of ideas and innovation.”

From the agonizing, real-time tension of “The Cue from Hell” to the haunting, grief-stricken soprano vocals of “Sidney’s Lament,” Beltrami’s work anchored the emotional core of a film that was otherwise busy mocking its own tropes.

Whether you’re a vinyl hunter looking for that perfect splatter variant or a score nerd ready to digest all 40 tracks on the Extended Cut CD, this reissue is proof that some nightmares never go out of style. Just remember the golden rule: Don’t answer the door, don’t hide in the garage, and definitely don’t hang up.
