Greenway Entertainment has officially dropped the trailer for Borley Rectory: The Awakening, based on “true events” that happened at England’s most cursed property.
Set in the early 1900s, the story follows Reverend Henry Bull and his sister Kitty—the two move into the family’s ancestral home. Naturally, instead of cozy fires and tea, they are greeted by escalating paranormal events. However, realizing a basic exorcism probably won’t cut it, the siblings call in a family friend/occult expert. His mission? To figure out which restless spirits are knocking on the walls—and why.
A Legendary Cast
Director Steven M. Smith (The Ghosts of Borley Rectory, Sweeney Todd: Slice & Dice) pulled off a minor miracle by wrapping the entire production in a frantic 12 days.
However, the quick shoot didn’t stop him from stacking the call sheet, though. The cast includes Julian Glover (Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, The Empire Strikes Back), Patsy Kensit (Lethal Weapon 2, Absolute Beginners) and Mark Wingett (Quadrophenia). Vicki Michelle (‘ Allo ‘Allo!), Helen Lederer (Absolutely Fabulous), and Simon Phillips (The Witcher) round out the cast.
“Having such legendary actors on board for this project was incredible,” says Smith. “We shot the film in just 12 days, but it’s packed with heart-pounding jump scares and suspense.”
The History Behind the Story
Built in 1862 by the Reverend Henry Dawson Ellis Bull, the home has been dubbed “The Most Haunted House in England.” Borley Rectory was a sprawling Victorian mansion in Essex. Its reputation was built on a mix of local folklore, cold drafts, and a haunting constructed to hide an affair. The ghostly legends began around 1900 with rumors of phantom nuns. But the property exploded into a national media spectacle in 1929 when celebrity paranormal investigator Harry Price took on the case. What followed was a frenzy of sensationalized reports detailing flying crockery, ringing bells, and mysterious pleas scrawled on the walls. IT was a haunting that fascinated the public for decades until the mansion burned down in 1939.
