Dexter Morgan is back! Get ready to sharpen your knives (figuratively, of course) because “Dexter: Resurrection” is officially headed your way! The long-awaited trailer has finally arrived following the release of a new teaser yesterday.
Our favorite vigilante serial killer, Dexter Morgan, played by Michael C. Hall, isn’t quite as dead as some had thought. He’s back in action and is joined by a collection of serial killers in New York in the new trailer.
A Long Dark Journey
For those following Dexter’s dark journey, the original “Dexter” series aired on Showtime from 2006 to 2013. It quickly became a favorite for its unique premise and Hall’s captivating portrayal of a serial killer with a moral code (sort of). Then came the sequel series, “Dexter: New Blood,” which aired in 2021 and seemingly brought Dexter’s story to a definitive end, with Dexter taking a bullet from his son, Harrison. Showrunner Clyde Phillips even confirmed his demise, which made the news of Hall’s return in “Resurrection” last summer a genuine shocker for fans.
Dexter’s Back in Action
According to the official description for “Dexter: Resurrection,” the new series picks up just weeks after he was shot. Dexter awakens from a coma only to find that Harrison (Jack Alcott) has vanished. The weight of what he put his son through finally strikes Dexter. And he sets off for the streets of New York City, determined to find Harrison and, somehow, make things right. But as any Dexter fan knows, closure rarely comes easy.
When Miami Metro’s very own Angel Batista (David Zayas) arrives with serious questions, Dexter realizes his past is catching up to him faster than he can say “tonight’s the night.” As father and son navigate their inner darkness in the city that never sleeps, they soon find themselves in a situation far deeper and more complicated than they ever imagined – and the only way out might be together. Talk about a twisted family reunion! That’s not all. A group of serial killers has come together; the question is, what hell will they unleash?
An Impressive Cast
Joining Hall, Alcott, and the welcome return of Zayas is an impressive cast. Uma Thurman joins the fray as the character Charley. The cast includes Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Kadia Saraf, Dominic Fumusa, and Emilia Suárez. In what’s sure to be a treat for OG fans, James Remar returns as Dexter’s dead but ever-present father, Harry Morgan. And if that wasn’t enough star power, get ready for some intriguing guest appearances from Neil Patrick Harris, Krysten Ritter, Eric Stonestreet, David Dastmalchian, and Peter Dinklage.
Behind the scenes, we’ve got a powerhouse team. Executive producers include Phillips, Hall himself, Scott Reynolds, Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, and Marcos Siega, who also directs a significant six episodes. Adding her directorial talent to the mix is Monica Raymund, who will helm four episodes. Showtime Studios and Counterpart Studios are producing the series.
The Premiere
“Dexter: Resurrection” will premiere with a double episode on Thursday, July 11th, on Paramount+. It will air on Showtime two days later.
Dexter Morgan’s story isn’t over yet, and we can’t wait to see what dark twists and turns await him in the concrete jungle of New York City. Get ready for a resurrection that’s sure to be killer.
