Horror icons Stephen King and Mick Garris have lent their endorsements to the newly released official trailer for The Cycle. It’s the latest original feature coming to Shudder. Filmmaker Jordan Downey, known for The Head Hunter and V/H/S/Beyond, directs the film.

The film has already captured the attention of genre royalty. King publicly raved that The Cycle merges the claustrophobic dread of The Thing with the psychological intensity of The Silence of the Lambs. He’s deemed it a genuinely terrific fright flick. Garris echoed that praise, describing it as an over-the-top, unrelenting celebration of practical special effects that horror purists are bound to admire.

A Dark Supernatural Mystery and an Unsettling Premise

The story centers on a deeply disturbing discovery that plunges its protagonist into a waking nightmare. Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood) stars as an estranged daughter who is shocked when law enforcement discovers a body at the site of a gruesome crime. It’s revealed that it is her father who vanished three decades prior. The discovery forces his daughter to confront and unravel the deeply sinister secrets of his hidden past. This unleashes a terrifying supernatural ordeal in the process.

A Stellar Cast, Creative Team, and Exclusive Fall Release

Jeffrey Donovan also stars. He’s recognizable for his prominent roles in Burn Notice and Villains. Director Jordan Downey also co-wrote the screenplay with longtime creative collaborator Kevin Stewart. The team previously crafted the acclaimed indie horror hit The Head Hunter.

The Trailer

The trailer reveals that Woll’s character, Meg, works at a body farm and is a forensic expert. It features some intense, gore-filled special effects, mystery, and horror. However, it also teases that the villain may not be human.

Audiences eager to experience this haunting descent into practical-effects-driven horror will not have to wait long. The Cycle premieres exclusively on Shudder on October 23. So, grab some popcorn and invite a friend; you’re not going to want to watch this alone.
