After its initial digital VOD debut, the horror-comedy feature Pay to Die will soon stream for free on Tubi, courtesy of distributor BayView Entertainment. Directed by filmmaking duo Shawn C. Phillips and Lauren Francesca, the film is also available to buy or rent on major digital platforms, including Amazon Prime Video and Fandango at Home.

Skewering Crowdfunding and Indie Film Chaos

Skewering modern crowdfunding culture and the absurdities of low-budget movie sets, the story follows a struggling commercial director who launches a Kickstarter-style campaign to finance his dream slasher feature. However, once cameras start rolling, the line between cinematic fiction and real-life bloodshed completely vanishes as fame-obsessed actors, washed-up icons, rabid fans, and lethal opportunists transform the set into a bloody nightmare.

A Nostalgic Ensemble and a Final Screen Legacy

The feature stands out for its stacked cult ensemble cast, marking one of the final screen appearances of late actor Robert Carradine (Revenge of the Nerds, The Cowboys), who portrays a police officer investigating the onset of gruesome murders. Former Saturday Night Live and MADtv star Jeff Richards also headlines the cast alongside genre favorites and pop-culture figures including Bai Ling, James Duval, Ken Davitian, Angel Salazar, Joe Estevez, Robert Miano, Lorelei Linklater, and Kato Kaelin.

The Creative Team Behind the Parody

In addition to starring in the film, Jeff Richards co-produced it and contributed to the original soundtrack. Meanwhile, directors Phillips and Francesca continue to expand their footprint in independent genre cinema, following up their previous holiday slasher Mistletoe Massacre and Phillips’ Desert Fiends with their sharpest mix of practical splatter and Hollywood satire to date.

Where to Watch Today

Genre fans looking for a bloody, satirical spin on low-budget filmmaking can stream Pay to Die for free on Tubi TV on October 7 or buy or rent the film on Amazon Prime Video and Fandango at Home.
