If horror fans know one thing for certain, it’s that when Maika Monroe leads a genre film, we are in for an absolute, skin-crawling masterpiece. Fresh off her haunting performance in Longlegs, Monroe returns to the dark side in Victorian Psycho. And it has officially landed an R-rating from the MPAA for “strong bloody violence and brief sexual material.” A stark new poster has just dropped. It features Monroe letting out a bone-chilling scream that sets the tone for the gothic mayhem to come.

Dark Secrets in the Manor

Adapted directly from the novel by author Virginia Feito herself, the film casts Monroe as Winifred. She’s an eccentric governess who arrives at an estate to care for a wealthy family’s children. Naturally, it doesn’t take long for the household to realize something is deeply, terribly wrong. Beneath Winifred’s delicate, polite exterior lies a dark and bloody secret. She isn’t just a quiet teacher, but is also a ruthless, cold-blooded 19th-century serial killer.

A Powerhouse Ensemble and Creative Team

Directed by Zachary Wigon (Sanctuary), the film is produced by Longlegs producer Dan Kagan. This period nightmare boasts an extraordinary supporting cast alongside Monroe. The stacked lineup includes Thomasin McKenzie (Last Night in Soho), Jason Isaacs (The Pit, Harry Potter), and Evie Templeton (Wednesday). It also features Ruth Wilson (Luther, His Dark Materials), Amy De Bhrún (Vikings), and Jacobi Jupe (Hamnet).

Prepare for the Gothic Carnage

With an undisputed horror queen in the lead, a phenomenal supporting cast, and a razor-sharp script that turns the classic gothic governess trope completely on its head, Victorian Psycho is shaping up to be one of the fall’s most thrilling cinematic events. Check out the gripping new trailer to get a taste of the gothic brutality before the film slashes into theaters nationwide on November 13!
