After 16 years, a sequel to the supernatural teenage horror film Jennifer’s Body is finally coming. Here’s everything we know so far.

The Cult Legacy and Triumphant Creative Reunion

When the original film debuted in 2009, a misguided marketing campaign targeted mainly men, pushing the film’s sexiness to the forefront. That portrayal left many women uninterested. Over time, however, female viewers and genre fans have fully embraced the film.

Excitement for a new installment also comes from the creative team reuniting. Fans will see the return of the original director, Karyn Kusama; the writer, Diablo Cody; and the star, Megan Fox. However, it’s not yet known whether Amanda Seyfried will return for the sequel.

Exploring Sympathy and Isolation in the Sequel

During a recent appearance on the Petticoat Revolution podcast, Cody discussed her approach to the upcoming sequel. The writer also emphasized that Jennifer was fundamentally a victim both before and after her transformation. While audiences vividly recall her brutal power, Cody highlighted the character’s underlying loneliness, vulnerability, and deep emotional isolation. The new script will explore Jennifer’s tragic life even further.

The Original

Jennifer’s Body follows high school student Needy Lesnicki (Amanda Seyfried) and her gorgeous, popular best friend, Jennifer Check (Megan Fox). When an indie rock band sacrifices Jennifer to Satan in exchange for a record deal, the ritual goes horribly wrong because she isn’t actually a virgin.

As a result, a bloodthirsty demon possesses Jennifer. To maintain her beauty and strength, she must feast on the flesh of their male classmates. While Jennifer embraces her lethal new appetite, Needy uncovers the dark truth and realizes she is the only one who can stop her friend’s murderous spree. This leads to a violent, tragic showdown between the former best friends.

Reclaiming the Narrative for a Modern Audience

While the release date is still unannounced, fans can expect the same gore, feminist energy, and sexiness that made the original a cult classic. If you haven’t seen Jennifer’s Body or want to rewatch it, you can stream it now on Hulu, Peacock, and Starz. Here’s a look back at the trailer.
