Horror fans, mark your calendars! Paramount Pictures has now announced the 2026 release date for the highly anticipated horror film Primate.
Primate is generating some early buzz thanks to its world premiere at this year’s Fantastic Fest. Johannes Roberts directs the movie, which features a strong cast that includes Johnny Sequoyah and Oscar-winning actor Troy Kotsur (CODA).
The terrifying premise centers on a young woman who returns home from college to be reunited with her family and their pet chimpanzee, Ben. However, things turn into bloody terror when Ben catches rabies and unleashes violence on everyone in his path.
Here’s what you need to understand about Chimps. Chimps are extremely strong, able to pull the limbs off their victims. They also have a bite force of around 1,300 PSI, 300 more than the average male lion. That’s terrifying.
There have been numerous reports of pet chimps suddenly attacking their owners. One of the worst cases on record may be the attack on Charla Nash. Her pet Chimp, Travis, attacked her, ripped off her face, bit off her fingers, and beat her severely. She did survive; however, she is now blind and has gone through multiple surgeries to give her a functioning face, lips, and nose. So yes, Chimps are scary as hell all on their own. Add rabies, and you get a total nightmare.
Primate will be released on January 9, joining an impressive roster of January genre films, including Sony’s 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, opening in theaters on January 16.
