The biggest names in modern terror are teaming up. They are working together to resurrect the franchise that started it all for one of them. James Wan (the genius behind The Conjuring and Insidious) is joining forces with Blumhouse–Atomic Monster to produce a brand new installment in the iconic Paranormal Activity series!
This yet-to-be-named film will be a direct sequel to 2021’s Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin, which you can watch now on Apple TV and Paramount+. It marks the first significant effort since the massive merger between Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions and James Wan’s Atomic Monster last year. Hollywood heavyweight Paramount is also attached as a co-financier and will handle worldwide distribution.
The Kings of Horror Unite
While the two companies continue to operate as separate entities, this Paranormal Activity project represents precisely the kind of mega-collaboration fans hoped for when the merger was announced. Both Wan and Blum are diving in, alongside original creator Oren Peli via Solana Films, to reshape the found-footage phenomenon.
Wan recently wrapped up his hugely successful Conjuring universe, which concluded with The Conjuring: Last Rites. He’s now expressed his enthusiasm for revisiting the Paranormal Activity franchise:
“I’ve been a huge admirer of Paranormal Activity since the brilliant first movie, with its creeping slow burn and subtle ability to make the unseen terrifying,” Wan revealed. “I’m looking forward to expanding on its legacy and helping shape the next evolution of this scary found-footage franchise.”
Bigger and Better
Jason Blum echoed Wan’s excitement, emphasizing the significance of this project to the Blumhouse brand:
“Diving in with James for this exciting rebirth of the franchise that started it all for Blumhouse is exactly what we dreamed of when we merged with Atomic Monster. I’ll be actively involved with him to introduce this new chapter.”
Blum also couldn’t resist joking about the franchise’s legendary roots. “Thankfully, we’re able to spend a little more than the $15,000 we had on the first movie, but one thing will remain the same – do not see it alone.”
That’s right, a bigger budget and the combined creative power of two horror titans? Yes, please. Get ready! The cameras are set to roll soon on the next chapter of paranormal terror!
