Black Mandala is back to ensure you never feel safe in your living room again. They’ve just dropped the first trailer for A Mother’s Recall, a psychological horror trip that proves “family bonding” can sometimes involve a bit too much… malevolence.
Directed by Mauro Iván Ojeda (the mind behind the breakout hit La Funeraria), this film traded in the typical jump-scares for a slow-burning dread that sticks to your skin like static. And if the poster—featuring a severed cat’s head drifting from a balloon—is any indication, we’re in for a delightfully weird brand of nightmare fuel.
Home Sweet… Horror?
The story follows Genaro. He’s a teenage orphan who thinks he’s finally caught a break when a new family takes him in. Spoiler alert: he hasn’t.
As Genaro settles in, the “warm welcome” begins to feel more like a trap. Alongside his equally troubled new sister, Nuria, he discovers that their home isn’t just drafty—it’s inhabited. There’s a dark, inhuman force lurking in the floorboards. And it doesn’t just want to scare them; it wants to feed on their trauma.
A Fright-Filled Cast
Ojeda is joined by Mateo Berti, Miguel Bosco, Lorenzo Crespo, Vilma Echeverría, Guadalupe Aldaz Gallo, Virginia Garófalo, Edgardo Molinelli, Julieta Palermo, and Santino Resta.
Why You Should Watch
Ojeda avoids the “loud noises” trope, opting instead for elegant, unsettling visuals where every shadow feels like it has teeth. Continuing the region’s surge in high-quality genre cinema, this film blends deep-seated emotional drama with supernatural chills. Beyond the ghosts, it’s a gritty look at abandonment, identity, and the lengths we go to for a sense of belonging. If you like your horror with a side of emotional devastation, A Mother’s Recall is your next obsession.
