John Lepper, film producer, writer, special effects makeup artist and horror fan, is now working on a comic titled ‘We Kill The Dead’. There is something very special about this comic, it will hold the record for most cameos by characters in horror films, supernatural characters to be exact. Not only will the comic have a ton of familiar characters, it will also have a few new ones as well. Unlike in some comic cameos, Lepper has permission to use the characters he’s featuring. And there are a lot of them, 22 to be exact. The list includes Reeker from ‘No Man’s Land’, Thorn from the film ‘Slasher House’, Dollman (Methodic), Mary Mattock (Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet), Verden Fell (FrightWorld), Jonah (Jonah Lives), Jack-O (Jack-O), Evil Highlander (Redwood Massacre), Stitches (Stitches), BBK (Gutterballs) and Black Night from the film ‘Dead of Knight’, just to name a few. Lepper is also in the process of writing a novel that will expand on the comic and it’s slasher universe.
KM “What made you fall in love with the horror genre?”
JL “I was sixteen and had just moved to Maine, when I saw my first horror movie, Halloween. I was hooked. I also love super heroes, I wondered why more people didn’t cross the two.
KM “How did your comic book come to be?”
JL “The idea was thought in a rough basis over a decade ago and evolved. I love the sub-genre where military units are pitted against the supernatural. I combined the two and came up with ‘We Kill The Dead’.
KM “Tell us about the record you’re going for.”
JL “Currently I have 22 separately owned horror characters, that I have permission to use. The record will be for the most separately owned entities in a comic. It’s a horror comic written by a horror fan for horror fans.”
KM “When will it be released and where can people get it?”
JL “It will be out sometime between January and March digitally. It will also be available on our site, in some comic stores and on Amazon Kindle.”
KM “Please, tell us about your book.”
JL “The book will revolve around Smiley, an original character and will lead into the second edition of the comic. It’s an origin story, of sorts.”
Lepper runs the horror website Blood-Shed.com, which the comic is being produced under, along with short films, such as his film ‘Cat and Mouse’.
