Independent studio Intruder Films has officially announced the upcoming release of A Cold Season. It’s a gripping psychological horror film in which the boundary between reality and unhinged delusion vanishes entirely.
Written and directed by Christian Jude Grillo and produced by Andrew Hunsicker, the Christmas-set thriller dives deep into the mind of a man whose quiet, snowbound routine conceals a trail of blood and obsession.
The Twisted Story
Set during Christmas amid the stark beauty of Pennsylvania’s snow-covered mountains, A Cold Season is a character-driven psychological horror film. It explores grief, isolation, guilt, and the dangerous stories people can create when reality becomes too painful to confront.
At the center of the story is a lonely man living an isolated existence as winter closes in around him. What initially appears to be a quiet life begins revealing something much darker. A string of killings, a deteriorating grip on reality, and a sinister double push him further toward violence and madness. The result is a psychological horror story in which the audience is continually forced to question what is real. And what exists only inside the protagonist’s mind, and whether there is still a meaningful distinction between the two.
Practical Winter Conditions Drive the Unforgiving Pennsylvania Setting
To create the story’s stark, suffocating isolation, the production eschewed soundstages and visual effects, opting instead to film directly in the harsh winter environment of Pennsylvania. Utilizing the natural mountain terrain, heavy snowfall, biting winds, and wind turbines surrounding the Blue Knob region, the filmmakers transformed the landscape into a physical manifestation of the protagonist’s mental collapse. The peaceful nostalgia of the Christmas season serves as a jarring backdrop to the main character’s downward spiral into madness.
