Since it’s release last February, “Get Out” has proven to have legs and then some, grossing over $250 million dollars and mopping up on the rewards segment, including four academy award nominations. It was a smashing successful and startling debut for first time director Jordan Peele, best known for his sketch show on Comedy Central.
With Peele having one of the the most promising directoral debuts in history, horror or not, all eyes are locked on the 38 year old, wondering what film he’ll cook up next. While much is still unknown, Jordan has peeled back the first few layers of what his next project might be, stating in an interview with THR;

You know, I think it’s important to focus on stories that are true to meMy next film, I am currently writing it and I’ll direct for Universal this year; I’m just trying to entertain myself again.”

He elaborated that he doesn’t want to make just another Get Out, although he had earlier indicated he’d be open for a sequel.

One thing I know is that this is genre; and playing around with the thriller, horror, action, fun, genre of intrigue is my favorite. That’s my sweet spot. So I think tonally it should resemble Get Out. That said, I want to make a completely different movie. I want to address something different than race in the next one.”

That’s not a whole lot to go on, but it’s at least an indication that Peele is foraging ahead on a new project, and he hasn’t forgotten his black comedy roots. One thing I don’t think gets talked about with Get Out is just how funny it is…you know, when the horrible and terrifying stuff isn’t on screen. And ok, a little bit when it is. That moose goring scene was pretty damn funny.
