Genre icon Lin Shaye, star of the Insidious franchise, has just boarded Sony’s new take on The Grudge from writer-director Nicholas Pesce.
Shaye joins previously announced cast members John Cho, Demian Bichir, and Andrea Riseborough, according to Variety.
We are so excited about this new adaptation,” Producer Sam Raimi stated. “We went back to the original source material to deliver a relentless supernatural thrill ride that explores the horrors of American suburbia.”
The film is a “reimagining” of 2004’s The Grudge, which was itself a remake of Japan’s Ju-on and is the twelfth film in the combined Ju-On/The Grudge franchise which also includes a graphic novel series, two short films and a video game.
Sony Pictures Worldwide recently snagged the rights to the film which begins filming this May. Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert will be producing the film for Ghost House. Nathan Kahane and Erin Westerman will executive produce alongside Schuyler, Roy Lee, and Doug Davidson.
