It’s been two years since “Penny Dreadful” was sadly canceled, Showtime has ordered the Victorian-era spin-off “City of Angels.”
Deadline is reporting that “Fear the Walking Dead” actor Daniel Zovatto (It Follows) has been tapped to play the lead character named Tiago.
The site reports that “While City of Angels is being positioned as an ensemble series, Tiago is considered the story’s male protagonist. LAPD’s first Mexican-American detective, Tiago grapples with racism, childhood trauma, and faith issues in 1938 Los Angeles.”
In the series “A spiritual descendant of the story set in Victorian-era London, the next chapter employs a new vision, new characters, and storylines. It opens in 1938 Los Angeles, a time and place deeply infused with Mexican-American folklore and social tension. Rooted in the conflict between characters connected to the deity Santa Muerte and others allied with the Devil, “Penny Dreadful: City of Angels” will explore an exciting mix of the supernatural and the combustible reality of that period, creating new occult myths and moral dilemmas within a genuine historical backdrop.”
John Logan is not only the series’ creator but will also serve as the writer and executive producer.
