Netflix has released several series this year including “The Haunting of Bly Manor,” which didn’t quite live up to its predecessor. But if you are looking for a horror series on the streaming giant there is one, in particular, I highly recommend, “Sweet Home.”

While the title “Sweet Home” may not sound like the name of a horror series I promise you that it is in every sense of the word. This South Korean show is the most insane thing I’ve watched in a long time. And I mean that as a compliment.

Directed by Lee EungBok, the series is actually an adaptation of the webtoon by the same name. In the series, Hyunsoo, a loner high school student who lost his entire family in a terrible accident, moves to an old apartment complex called Green Home. Not long after, all hell breaks loose as some people begin to turn into monsters throughout the city. The residents of Green Home must band together to survive.

Everything about “Sweet Home” is intense! It’s nonstop action and gruesome as hell. The characters’ struggle and the great character development will have you cheering for the survivors and crying when they fall. The show has a massive ensemble cast led by Song Kang, Lee Jin-Wook, and Lee Si-young. Every actor did a fantastic job emoting their characters’ terror, their desperation, and their fight to survive.  Jesus, they killed it. Each character is relatable and has a strong sense of realness. We get to see them evolve in front of our eyes as each of the ten episodes unfolds.

Into monsters? Well, this series is for you. I lost count of the number of different types of grotesque monsters and I mean crazy monsters, huge monsters, goo monsters, etc… Things get bloody quick and it just keeps coming. There are a few scenes where the CGI was left lacking, but the practical effects are amazing! The cinematography and show’s overall look is great and the use of color is brilliant.

You won’t get bored with “Sweet Home.” The action is off the charts as they fight the monsters, themselves, and strangers. There’s always something happening, a monster to fight or a character to protect. And surprise, some of the characters can kick serious ass!

“Sweet Home” put me through a gambit of emotions, which rarely happens these days. It left me with my mouth gaped open, yelling at the screen, jumping out of my chair, and close to tears in places. That’s rare and I found it delightful.

I really don’t want to go into too many details here because I do not want to spoil anything for you. You need to watch it for yourself! I promise you won’t regret it. In fact, don’t be shocked if you see “Sweet Home” on our “Top 10 Series of 2020” list next week. I’ve got my fingers (and toes) crossed that we will get a second season!

“Sweet Home” is a must-see! Luckily, it’s streaming right now! While the trailer below features closed captioning in English, the series is actually English dubbed and they did a pretty good job of it.
