Over the past several decades several attempts have been made to remake the 1954 ‘Creature from the Black Lagoon’. Now it seems Universal may actually make it happen. The word is Scarlett Johanson is the target actress wanted to play the lead role of Kay, the object of the creature’s affection. Larger Than Life and Strike Entertainment will be producing the new film written by Jeff Blitz, Tedi Sarafian, Gary Ross and Paul Schering. Universal stated last year that they are making a new franchise with all the classic Universal monsters. ‘Dracula Untold’ (2014), starring Luke Evans, was the first of the new series with a shared universe (think Marvel). The next movie in line will be a new version of the Mummy. We will keep you posted as more details develop.

David Robert Mitchell’s supernatural thriller ‘It Follows’ has made a big impression on horror fans. It’s no surprise that ‘It Follows’ would have a sequel. According to Entertainment Weekly, Radius-TWC has begun the early stages of development, planing out a follow up movie that will answer some of the questions that go unanswered in ‘It Follows’. Tom Quinn, co-president of Radius-TWC had this to say: “I don’t want to give away to much, but we’ve thought about it…Flip the title. There’s so much we could do.” I can’t help but wonder what Quinn meant by “Flip the title”. Perhaps Quinn was hinting that the title of the sequel will be “Follow It” or something similar. There are so many ways the characters could be involved in behavior opposite of the ‘It Follows’ script. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Dario Argento Recently there has been a big trend of movies being adapted for an international TV series. ‘Suspiria’ has now joined that list. ‘Suspiria’, a 1977 movie by Dario Argento, was based on the 1845 book titled “Suspiria De Profundis’ by Thomas De Quincey . A few years ago the film was in line to be remade, but legal issues stood in the way. ‘Suspiria’ was the first of Argento’s films (in a trilogy) that refers to “The Three Mothers”, a coven of witches. The other titles in the trilogy include ‘Inferno’ and ‘Mother of Tears’. ‘Suspiria’ tells the story of Suzy, an American ballet student, played by Jessica Harper, who joins a ballet academy in Germany. After a series of murders Suzy realizes that the academy is a front for something more, something sinister and supernatural. The new series is titled ‘Suspiria De Profundis’. There are few movies in this world that I love more than the 1975 cult classic ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’. Few movies have such a large cult following as ‘Rocky Horror’. So many will understand why I was absolutely furious when it came to my attention that FOX is remaking ‘Rocky Horror’ for TV. My first thought, how dare they? The rash of recent reboots is off the charts and in my opinion, they have just crossed the line. No one, and I mean no one can properly play Brad and Janet, Riff Raff, Magentam or Columbia other than the original cast and as far as I am concerned Tim Curry IS Dr. Frank-N-Furter. The ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ is approaching it’s 40th anniversary, and how do they celebrate the milestone? By butchering it. What on God’s green earth could make FOX think this was ok? Are you wondering who is behind this nonsense ? Gail Berman of The Jackal
