Godzilla is back! Godzilla Minus One, the first Japanese Godzilla movie since 2016’s Shin Godzilla, is headed your way and has a new trailer. “In postwar Japan, a new terror rises, Godzilla. Will the devastated people be able to survive… let alone fight back?” Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe lead the cast. Takashi Yamazaki (Lupin III: The First) directs Godzilla Minus One, which marks the 30th live-action film of Toho’s Kaiju franchise, which began in 1954 with Ishirô Honda’s Gojira (aka Godzilla). Godzilla Minus One opens in Japanese theaters on November 3, 2023, followed by its arrival in US theaters on December 1, 2023.

Every once in a blue moon I see a flick so incredibly difficult to write about that I’m nearly brought to tears… not because it’s a difficult task, but rather because someone has the goddamn balls to create a psychotronic mother fucking masterpiece and I’d rather all you like-minded cats n’ creeps would just watch the damned thing rather than reading my wicked words… and that is a thing of beauty and wonder indeed! If you didn’t heed my edict above and are still here, I’ll attempt to give you a rough sketch as to just what to expect story-wise from writer/director/genius Adrian Garcia Bogliano’s Black Circle… Celeste (Felice Jankell) is having a shitty go at things when her successful businesswoman sis, Isa (Erica Midfjäll), clues her in to a hypnosis record from the ’70s that has changed her life for the better. A dark and twisted mystery unfolds in the Swedish horror-thriller Shadow Island, coming to theaters this September. In Shadow Island, an aspiring meteorologist, David (Johan L. Heinstedt), stumbles upon what remains of his father’s work. David sets off to a desert island in the Barents Sea – the one place that may hold the truth about his father’s passing. Confronted by strange lights in the dark, eerie radio disturbances, and a hidden cave, David questions whether or not he’s alone on the island. But his search for truth will lead to a much larger conspiracy. The film marks the feature debut of Johan Storm, who also penned the script. PAREIDOLIA (2023) Director Aaron Truss’s shock short Pareidolia — a word meaning the phenomenon of our minds attempting to make meaningful images out of patterns or objects when one does not exist, such as seeing a cloud in the shape of a sheep — is a fantastic work boasting top-notch production values, a cast featuring some familiar genre-film favorites, and an intriguing story that is ripe for being made into a full-length feature. Lecturer Sinead Chambers (genre legend Diane Franklin of Amityville II: The Possession [1982], Waking Nightmare [2023], and about 50 other acting credits) has begun experiencing pareidolia in increasingly disturbing ways, which she discusses with her friend Jean Clark (Carolyn Pickles of The Yellow Wallpaper [1989]), while priest Father Cavanagh (Graham Cole) makes a shocking discovery at a mortuary involving a very peculiar demise. Aaron Truss, working from a screenplay by Aiden Truss, invests Pareidolia with an eldritch atmosphere, a fast-paced approach, and a gripping dash of mystery.

Horror scribe Peter Neal (American television mainstay Anthony Franciosa) has just released his newest novel, the eponymous Tenebrae, and is all set to promote the living shit out of it down Italy way. No sooner does he set foot on solid ground (okay, slightly after) when he’s grilled by mystery novel super-duper fan Detective Germani (Giuliano Gemma) and his partner, Inspector Altieri (Carola Stagnaro), about a recent murder of a young woman… a murder inspired by (and physically utilizing) the pages of Neal’s novel… along with a big ol’ straight razor; a real case of shave and a haircut, two tits… Much like potato chips, our mysterious madman can’t stop at just one, and before long the list of extinct lovely ladies murdered in various and sundry ways (all inspired by Neal’s wicked words, natch) gets rather lengthy indeed. This all makes Neal absolutely bonkers to solve the mystery himself… which leads to red herrings and head trauma… but doesn’t

From Well Go USA, who brought you Train To Busan, comes the creature feature Creepy Crawly, a film born out of Thai folklore, arriving just in time for Halloween. In the film, “When travelers arrive in Thailand during the pandemic, they must quarantine for 14 days at a hotel run by a secretive manager and staff. French filmmaker Mathieu Turi (Hostile, Meander) is back with a new tale of terror, The Deep Dark (aka Gueules Noires, aka Dark Faces), which premieres this Winter. The new trailer teases a claustrophobic environment and a killer creature. Set in 1956 France, the film sees “A band of underground miners is forced to lead a professor to take samples a thousand meters underground. BIBI (2023) A gorgeous looking meditation on grief and loss, writer/director Christopher Beatty’s atmospheric thriller Bibi uses gothic elements in its story of a woman named Vivan (Elizabeth Paige in a riveting lead performance) and the troubled relationship she has with her teen daughter Bibi (Judith Ann DiMinni). Vivian has suffered psychological issues since childhood, when her father caused her sister’s death. Now plagued further by Bibi’s troubling behavior and the threat of danger from a constant intruder, Vivian is spiraling further downward. Seasoned viewers of psychological shockers may sometimes find themselves a step or so ahead of some of the proceedings, but the journey to the end of the film is one well worth taking thanks to gorgeous set design by Melissa Edmond and art direction by Alec Addalia, sumptuous cinematography by John W.
