Subliminal Films has acquired the Finnish hillbilly thriller Tuftland for US distribution and has released a series of new posters in anticipation of its theatrical release. The debut feature from NYU graduate Roope Olenius, Tuftland centers on “headstrong textile student Irina as she accepts a summer job offer from the isolated and self-sufficient village of Kyrsyä, only to quickly realize that the offbeat hillbillies who inhabit the small town aren’t as harmless as they may seem.” The film, shot on location in the Finnish backwoods, is noted for its controversial and provocative blend of feminist themes, arthouse refinement, and slasher tropes. Tuftland was adapted by Olenius from the stage play ‘Kyrsyä’ by Neea Viitamäki. The film stars rising Finnish actresses Veera W. Vilo and Saara Elina as well as Miikka J. Anttila. Olenius, Vilo, and Anttila produced. The acquisition was negotiated on behalf of the filmmakers by sales agent Marco Magni of Euro Obscura. Subliminal Films, the startup distribution label

Uncork’d Entertainment has snagged the North American rights to Samuel Cunha Galli‘’s disturbing Brazilian supernatural horror film Our Evil (aka Mal Nosso). Set in the seedy underbelly of Sao Paulo, Brasil, an exorcist (Ademir Esteves) uses the dark web to employ a serial killer (Ricardo Casella) to protect his daughter (Laura Pepita) from demonic possession. Directed by Galli, Our Evil co-stars Fernando Cardoso, Reinaldo Colmanetti, Walderrama Dos Santos, and Maria Clara Gonçalves. Uncork’d Entertainment plans for a theatrical release in New York and Los Angeles with Dark Star Pictures, followed by a nationwide VOD release.

Meagan (Jesse McGinn) and Jonathan (Robert Hartburn) escape the rat race and move on to greener pastures…literally, as they move into a house situated next to an orchard in the middle of East Ass-Hair. Nowheresville (it’s a real place, believe me…I’m a movie critic, and I know things). Anyway, things go smoothly enough on their first night in the new pad…minus a missing house cat, but you can bet demons to doughnuts that shit heads south with the major quickness…and it does as later that night someone watches their sex sesh from the wooded area surrounding the home. Bruce Denny (Death Bet) and Connor Gosatti (Midnight Ticket) also star. Director and graphic designer Graveley won the Neville Brody’s International FUSE competition, for design. His story, heavy on pastoral imagery, is set in Western Australia. Over three nights, Jonathan and Megan are subjected to unimaginable terrors. Stalked, chased and spied upon, this couple’s dream of a quiet life is destroyed by those who wish to keep their illicit pursuits hidden. 3rd Night is a 2D Films and Meld Film Studio production which will be released in an unrated version, so Graveley’s true horror vision can be seen by audiences. Released in Australia in 2017, horror fans in the U.S. can see Graveley’s first feature, on DVD October

After wandering through a small village in Greece (accompanied by one hell of a raunchy score), two German tourists arrive on a beach and get them selves all murdered up by something that comes out of the ocean. Speaking of tourists, five pals and their new acquaintance Julie (Tisa Farrow) plan on touring the islands. They hop on a boat, drink some Cokes, play some guitar, and ignore ominous Tarot card warnings…as one does. Soon most of the gang (minus the outrageously pregnant Maggie…seriously, she may be in the 5th trimester) go exploring the town…a town which is nearly deserted save for a strange woman in black and a cannibalized corpse here and there. Things aren’t going to well back at the boat either as Maggie is abducted, and the boat is set adrift stranding the group on the island where they shelter in a seemingly empty house. Nick (Sam Gittins) has the bright idea of bringing his Middle Eastern girlfriend Annji (Neerja Naik) to his parents’ pad for Chrimbo. This goes over like a fart in a submarine for some of his kooky klan, as his father (Grant Masters) is mega-pissed that Nick hasn’t been home in years, and his grandpa Alfred (David Bradley), is a full on racist prick. Things get even more tense once Nick’s pregnant sister and her boyfriend arrive…oh, and when the mega-dysfunctional family soon discovers the house is completely sealed up by a strange obsidian corrugated metal. Isolated from the outside world, they receive messages from their television…which first displays “STAY INDOORS AND AWAIT FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS”…but before long the messages become increasingly ominous…which causes even more tension in the household. As if clowns weren’t creepy enough already, writer-director Warren Speed takes things a step further with Coulrophobia, headed your way this October. The film centers on a group of roller derby girls who go camping in the remote Scottish highlands, only to be abducted by a family of on-the-run circus performers who force them into a series of bizarre games – before events turn into an insane battle for survival for both sides. Pete Bennett, Daniella D’Ville, Roxy Bordeaux, Warren Speed, Chris M. T. Harrison, and Ana Udroiu star in the film whose title literally means “fear of clowns”. BAFTA music producer Graham Walker supervised the soundtrack composed by Gav Cantrell. Warren Speed produced. Coulrophobia is now out on DVD in the UK and will be unleashed worldwide on October 20, 2018.

As Yeon Sang-ho works on the sequel to 2016’s international hit Train to Busan, work has begun on the English-language remake. Deadline is reporting that horror heavy-hitter James Wan (The Conjuring franchise) has come on board to produce the remake written by Gary Dauberman (IT, The Nun). New Line went up against Paramount, Lionsgate, and Screen Gems and has won the bidding war for the rights to the movie. The South Korean original follows a group of passengers aboard a train who are fighting to survive a zombie outbreak while traveling from Seoul to Busan. At this time no director has been announced, but we’ll let you know when we learn more. In the meantime, check out the English trailer for the original which was loved by genre fans.

In a snow ensconced Gothic home; holly and her sister live with their off-kilter mother who speaks with invisible visitors, and rubs the ol’ rosary in front of a picture of a Victorian woman framed in neon. Things go from insane to even more fucking insane when Holly’s sister gets her period and her mother drowns hew sister by shoving her head in the toilet. Then Daddy dearest arrives, and Mommy slices him to pieces as Holly escapes into the snowy night. Flash forward and Holly (Clémentine Poidatz) is living in a lonely marriage to a famous author.
