It’s October and that means it’s time to get into the spirit of the season, and obviously nothing gets you into the Halloween mood better than horror. Unfortunately when it comes to most live-action horror films, there’s only so much that can be done and shown, but thankfully of all things, Anime can cross the line with story, gore, and intriguing storytelling. So for every day this month, I’ll be featuring a unique Anime that fits the horror genre that you can most likely find on any streaming service. Let’s grant wishes with xxxHOLIC. xxxHOLIC (2006) follows the story of a teenage boy who has the ability to see demons and ghosts that makes his social life non-existent. The boy then goes to a shop where you can have wishes granted as long as what you can pay matches the price of the wish. For his wish to lose his ability he must be the mysterious shopkeeper’s cook and errand

Writer-director Jeffrey Reddick has a ton of genre titles under his belt including creating the Final Destination franchise. Now, he’s back with a new tale of terror, Don’t Look Back, a haunting tale that follows a group of people who witness a man beaten to death in a park but do nothing to stop it. Soon after the murder paranormal activity begins to plague Caitlin (Kourtney Bell) who is still recovering from the murder of her father. When the witnesses begin to turn up dead, she sets out to get to the bottom of it. The cast, which also includes Will Stout, Skyler Hart, Jeremy Holm, Jaqueline Fleming, Amanda Grace Benitez, Han Soto, Damon Lipari, and Dean J. West, is not filled with well-known actors like you would expect it to be. I think, in the end, it actually works out better this way. It helps you to identify more with the characters and makes things a tad more believable.

Writer/director Jim Cummings follows up his debut feature at the helm, Thunder Road, with the highly entertaining werewolf outing The Wolf of Snow Hollow. Cummings portrays officer and recovering alcoholic John Marshall, a bullheaded personality who can go from silent to raging at the slightest disagreement. He is in line to succeed his aged father Sherriff Hadley (played marvelously by the late, great Robert Forster), who just won’t retire despite having a bad ticker. When the vicious killing of a young woman occurs by the light of a full moon, officials are torn as to whether the act was committed by an animal, a man, or a lycanthrope. Things only get muddier as the slayings continue. Part horror movie, part police procedural, part comedy, and part character study, The Wolf of Snow Hollow is a riveting, energetic ride. How much viewers will enjoy the film could depend greatly on how they feel about the John Marshall character. There’s no denying
