Tall Men has something of an interesting history behind it; originally released in 2004 as Customer 152, the 13 year old film is being given fresh legs with a new title, a new distributer, and a release on Netflix in May. It’s a shame thin, given the films journey to the silver screen, that it isn’t any better. A phycological horror featuring evil debt collectors and faceless men in suits almost a decade before Slenderman hit the scene, Tall Men has a lot of good elements, but a lack of cohesion ultimately stops the film from rising beyond the sum of its parts. Terrence Mackleby isn’t very good with money, to the tune of seven maxed out credit cards, $80,000 in debt, and a declaration of bankruptcy. However when he gets a mysterious credit card in the mail, with only four percent interest, old habits prove to die hard. It’s not long before Terrence finds owing a lot of money

When walking through a local park or street market, one might encounter all manner of artists, performers or…well, performance artists. Mimes are likely the most popular choice to be relegated on the lowest rung of the performance artist ladder, but there is something even lower – the “living statue”. Because while mimes at least have the skill to make people believe they’re stuck in an invisible box, the “living statue’s” claim to fame is the ability to remain stationary for long periods of time. That’s nothing, because I’ve seen plenty of road construction workers do the same thing for better money. However, if you just happen to be dead center in the middle of of a zombie stampede, where they are attacking everyone or everything that moves, the ability to remain deathly still is a huge asset. Zoe is a young woman looking to live life on her own terms. She has quit, or at least intends to, so that she can avoid falling into the same work-a-day drone trap her father did. The first step, or rather many steps, is a ten day hiking trip along the legendary Appalachian Trail. She will be accompanied by two half brothers (Brian and Sam aka Cheese), a computer programmer (Dan), and a trail guide with a VERY sketchy past (Drake). They begin their ten day trek, but rather than continue traveling along the marked trail, they are led off trail by Drake. He justifies this by claiming that it will make for a better and more exciting hiking trip since taking the main trail really doesn’t require any skill or assistance from a guide. And while Robert Frost may have waxed poetic about taking the road less traveled by, this group of hikers will learn that they would have

The author Thomas Wolfe was of the mind that you can’t go back home again. He even went as far as to write a book with that exact title. Sometimes circumstances make it necessary to go home, whether we want to or not. Such is the case for Claire, who is returning home because her mother, Susan, has just passed away. Claire and her husband, Aaron, take possession of and move into her childhood home, finding little has changed over the years. Not long after taking up residence in the house, Claire begins to recall the emotional anguish her mother caused her to endure as a child. Being her mother’s only daughter, her little princess, was a part of Claire’s young life that came with a great deal of emotional turmoil. Francisca is a young woman with a peculiar understanding of death. As a girl, she lived with her parents in a secluded country home. As part of her daily lessons, her mother, formerly a surgeon in Portugal, taught her about anatomy and how to be unaffected by death. One day an unexpected visitor would fracture their peaceful and serene country existence. While Francisca’s father is away the stranger murders her mother, but is then subdued by her father when he arrives home moments too late to save his wife. The stranger is neither killed by her father nor arrested by local authorities, and is instead held captive in their barn. Francisca’s mother is interred, unceremoniously, to a grave in the nearby woods. Eighty Office Drones with bombs in their heads, a kitchen filled with knives, a locker full of firearms, and a mysterious voice in the ceiling commentating on a game of death; what else could a horror fan ask for? With The Belko Experiment, writer and producer James Gunn harkens back to his Troma roots, delivering an over the top ode to carnage, nihilism, and primal savage. While the film’s message might muddled under an ocean of gore, and whatever insight it had to offer blown away like a Belko Employee’s cranium, Experiment offers what’s likely to be the most bloody fun time you’ve had in awhile; that is if your soul (and your stomach) can handle it. Belko’s premise is simple, with similarities that can be traced all the way back to Shirley Jackson’s The Lottery. 80 employees of the Belko Corporation, each with a bomb stuck in their head, are locked in their building and given two options; kill

Matan is a young man who serves on the Israeli Defense Force. But his role in the military isn’t as your typical grunt – Matan is a military assistant. Not necessarily a secretary, but definitely something clerical, which is definitely better suited for his meek disposition. However, at some point during one’s military service, they may b asked to muck in like everybody else and today is his day. Actually it’s his week to step up, since he and three other soldiers will be sent to a remote outpost to guard an antenna array. When he finally meets his three fellow soldiers, Ishay, Roy and Uzi, he realizes it could be a long weeks, as they start giving him the business from he get go. Matan’s only lifeline seems to be his mother, who he incessantly texts and calls during his journey to assume his week-long guard post. It’s the end of days at the small-town strip club, “Tittyballs”, as its owner, former baseball player Blue Jean Douglas, prepares for the last night before she likely closes its doors for good. With the intent of moving on to greener pastures, Blue Jean is selling her bar and never looking back. Being that it’s her last night as owner she’s bidding the place a raucous farewell. As the evening is just kicking off, a group of coal miners show up to do a bit of celebrating of their own. This four man crew believe that in the course of their digging for coal, that they’ve discovered a pocket of crude oil which could make them very wealthy. What they don’t realize is that the black ooze trickling through the rocks is actually a dangerous contaminant, which they have all come in contact with. Richwood Manor is a house with a history that spans well over two centuries. And if said history were committed to the pages of a book, it would tell the numerous brief but horrific tales of its former residents. Two paranormal investigators have been tasked with establishing the root cause of the unfortunate events that have long plagued the house and its residents. One investigator, Jack Donavan, is a skeptic whose method of investigation leans more towards disproving the veracity of a haunting through the use of scientific means and equipment. The other investigator, Jonathan Blazer, is a psychic whose “gift” provides him with a glimpse into the spirit realm which aids him in his endeavors. Neither man places much stock in the other’s investigative technique. What’s more, is that they would both prefer to work alone. When three young women receive shocking videos anonymously, a nightmare is reawakened that ignites a thirst for bloody vengeance. They embark on a journey to locate the house, their sadistic captor and to discover the truth behind those locked doors. But, the most shocking revelation of this chilling tale is the identities of the victims. If anyone has read my movie reviews before, you know that if the movie is lacking, I am not afraid to tell you so. I still feel a bit bad about my last scathing review, but it was honest. Luckily, today is not a day for scathe. I watched Psychos last night. This film written and directed by Sandy Chukhadarian and it was fantastic! It stars Angelica Chitwood, Deniele Cloutier and Melissa Elena Jones and is released through Leomark Studios. I wasn’t sure what to expect going in. I watched the trailer about 30 seconds before watching the film and, to be honest, wasn’t gripped.
