Game Review: 'Teardown Ultimate Edition'

Game Review: ‘Teardown Ultimate Edition’

Sometimes, you want to put a hole in the wall… then now, you have a hole in the wall you have to fix or get into a lot of trouble. That’s why destructive maps in games have always been popular and sadly are not used more. Thankfully Tuxedo Labs have created a game where pretty much everything is destructable! Teardown has made quite the splash on PC and has a devoted Mod community. Now Tuxedo Labs and Saber Interactive are bringing the destructive world of Teardown to console! This is Teardown Ultimate Edition! Teardown is a sandbox-style voxel game where players can either play the campaign/story where you can plan heists and manipulate the map for a quick escape or sandbox where you can explore and destroy to your heart’s content. Teardown‘s controls are easy to master, allowing you to get right into the game and let loose! When the game does have music, it’s good, I just wish that

Game Review: ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’

Activision is back with another installment in the biggest game franchise in history, Call of Duty, this time with the remake of Modern Warfare 3 that pits everyone’s favorite black ops team, Taskforce 141 against the infamous Vladimir Makarov. I had some gripes in my review of the Modern Warfare 2 reboot, especially about how the levels were laid out. Did things improve? Meh, kind of? Maybe? Let’s talk about it. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has good graphics, sound, and voice acting. The controls are the same as they have always been, so returning COD vets like me will have no issue picking up the sticks. Overall when it comes to the game’s story, players familiar with the originals will be both surprised and not when it comes to the main story. There has been some improvement when it comes to the levels, in MW2 I felt there was no freedom to play as it was pretty scripted

Movie Review: ‘There’s Something Wrong With The Children’ And The Movie

Back in March director Roxanne Benjamin’s horror film There’s Something Wrong with the Children was released on multiple streaming platforms. While scrolling through Prime Video last night the film caught my attention. So I decided to check it out. In the film, When Margaret (Wainwright) and Ben (Gilford) take a weekend trip with longtime friends Ellie (Crew) and Thomas (Santos) and their two young children (Guiza and Mattle), Ben begins to suspect something supernatural is occurring when the kids behave strangely after disappearing into the woods overnight. The film started out good, with an interesting story. However, that wouldn’t last. In a time when we desperately need new stories and strong characters, we get dumb characters who constantly make dumb decisions. Let’s start with the two main characters, Margaret (Alisha Wainwright) and Ben (Zach Gilford). Gillard gives a nice performance and a character the viewers can find empathy with. He’s struggling with mental health issues (aren’t we all), so when

Movie Review: Deadgirl (15th Anniversary Edition) – Unearthed Film’s Blu-ray

Buckle-up cats n’ creeps, because if you’ve never heard of 2008’s Deadgirl you are definitely in for a raised fuckin’ eyebrow or two, to say the very least… One hot day, high school chums Rickie (Shiloh Fernandez) and J.T. (Noah Segan) take a powder from school, and decide to hang out at Ye Olde Abandoned Psychiatric Hospital. Once there they find a naked, mute woman (Jenny Spain) lashed to a table. Naturally J.T. near-immediately wants to rape the woman, but Rickie is wisely none too keen on that particular action and books… but later J.T. reveals the girl is an undead creature as he attempted to put a murder on her to no avail. Still with me… if so, you can probably already gauge if this particular flick is your cup of terror tea or not. Moving on… Soon J.T. is inviting others to have a go at Deadgirl, which eventually involves local bully Johnny (Andrew DiPalma)… the paramour of

Game Review: 'The Invincible'

Game Review: ‘The Invincible’

Stanisław Lem’s novel The Invincible explores humanity’s relationship with life on other planets and how the evolution of life on Earth does not mean it’s superior. Starward Industries and 11 Bit Studio have brought Lem’s work to life in the appropriately named game adaptation, The Invincible. The Invincible follows astrobiologist Yasna, who is struggling to regain her memories while at the same time trying to figure out what happened to her crewmates on the planet of Regis III and the mystery behind these strange organic metal structures the crew was investigating. The controls for The Invincible are thankfully not complicated as the game keeps prompting you of what button does what. The soundtrack and sound design are stellar! The soundtrack catches the retro sci-fi mood with a modern twist. The thing I love about The Invincible is the art. The atompunk look of the equipment and tools, and the interior of the ship and vehicles. When it comes to the

Game Review: 'Slender: The Arrival'

Game Review: ‘Slender: The Arrival’

Ten years ago, the first official game based on the internet sensation Slender Man, Slender: The Arrival, was released, and YouTube was never the same again. Now, new and old players of the game can enjoy it with updated graphics and extra content with the new 10th-anniversary version of Slender: The Arrival. Slender: The Arrival takes players to a mysterious forested area full of abandoned sites as Laura, a young woman searching for her friend Kate who has suddenly gone missing from her family home after her encounter with a mysterious Slender Man. Slender: The Arrival‘s controls are simple and more likely the same as they were back when the game first came out, I’ll admit I’ve never played it before. I will say, that I have seen clips and pictures of the original, and the graphics in this version are way better, but the lighting needs work; no matter what I adjust my gamma and flashlight strength to, it’s

Game Review: 'No Son Of Mine'

Game Review: ‘No Son Of Mine’

At Fear Fest 2023, attendees were given a surprise on the first day of the event, a game launch. That game was Pleasantly Friendly Games and Feardemic’s No Son of Mine. The game was first launched on PS5, Switch, and PC at the time but has recently been released on Xbox, and Feardemic was awesome enough to send over a copy (thanks by the way!). No Son of Mine is a first-person survival horror where you search for clues about your mysterious pursuer, a demonic child. No Son of Mine‘s controls are limited, so they’re simple to remember. The audio is decent and the soundtrack helps set the mood, especially when things get spookier. No Son of Mine‘s gameplay is relatively simple, you explore the map looking for clues as they help you progress, as well as offer you some insight into the story. You acquire a red lens that allows you to see things you can’t see normally as

Game Review: 'Little Goody Two Shoes'

Game Review: ‘Little Goody Two Shoes’

Looking at it at face value, Little Goody Two Shoes looks like weeb fodder that many gamers will steer clear of, but with a darker tone hidden between the bright and colorful anime appearance, it’s quite intriguing. Part fairy tale, part horror narrative, and part dating sim, I want to thank Astral Shift and Square Enix for the reviewing opportunity! Little Goody Two Shoes takes place in a fairy tale world where Elise, a young woman who was mysteriously found in the forest as an infant, yearns for a lavish lifestyle away from the village she now resides in. Lately, local superstition has been taking hold of the villagers, and with the discovery of red shoes on her property, Elise now finds herself torn between the life she knows, and a darker mysterious one awaiting her in the woods. Little Goody Two Shoes‘s controls are simple as most of what you have to do involves moving around and interacting with

Game Review: 'Robocop: Rogue City'

Game Review: ‘Robocop: Rogue City’

Robocop was arguably one of the best films in the 80s, with its kitschy premise (that can only work in 80s films), memorable moments, merch, and memes. Over the years, video games have been made based on the film series, but admittedly, some of them did not catch the true essence of the film. Teyon and NACON teamed up with MGM to make what is possibly the best Robocop game to date, this is Robocop: Rogue City. Robocop: Rogue City takes players back to the mean streets of Detroit where a new mysterious crime lord is setting up shop and all the gangs of the city are auditioning to be part of the new criminal enterprise by ramping up their crime sprees, and only Robocop can help stem the tide of crime. Now, onto the game itself! Robocop: Rogue City‘s controls are your standard FPS kind which makes it easier to learn and remember as you start playing the game.

Spoiler-Free Reviews: THE WATERHOUSE and MARIA (FrightFest Halloween)

The Waterhouse (U.K., 2023) Writer/director Samuel Clemens’ The Waterhouse boasts mesmerizing sound design, captivating visuals, and a satisfyingly eerie, enigmatic tone. Thieves Eric (Alan Calton), Matt (Dominic Vulliamy), and Paul (Michelangelo Fortuzzi) have stolen a painting, the profits from which could make them rich. There’s a problem, though, as Matt’s mother Denice (Corrine Wicks), who helped with the heist, is missing, and when Eric finds blood and an object that could give rise to something going wrong, he keeps the information to himself. The trio is holed up in an isolated house on the beach and suspicion rises among them. Matters become more complicated when three women — Pixie (Lily Catalifo), Opal (Lara Lemon), and Noé (Sandrine Salyères) — turn up seeking help but wind up in a game of Two Truths and a Lie with the men, which leads to flirtation, strong sexual attraction, and eldritch proceedings. Painful sounds, missing time, and supernatural occurrences abound. Clemens — son of
