Last year when the streaming service Quibi called it quits, viewers were left with many questions, including what would happen to many of the popular series? Back in January we first reported that Roku was in negotiations to acquire Quibi’s collection. Today, we can finally report that the deal is official. Roku has bought exclusive global rights to Quibi’s entire library, meaning shows such as Sam Raimi’s “50 States of Fright” are now being labeled as “Roku Originals.” Other series include “The Expecting,” directed by American Psycho’s Mary Harrow, “The Stranger,” and many more. All of the content will be available on Roku’s free channel. While Roku will air the existing library, they have yet to order new seasons. Deadline reports “More than 75 originals, including a dozen unreleased series, will stream for the first time on The Roku Channel this year,” Hopefully, a release date for the Quibi collection will be announced soon. Epix has just announced their new original horror series “From,” created by John Griffin (Crater). According to Deadline, “From” unravels the mystery of a nightmarish town in middle America that traps all those who enter. As the unwilling residents fight to keep a sense of normalcy and search for a way out, they must also survive the threats of the surrounding forest – including the terrifying creatures that come out when the sun goes down.” “From will deliver suspense, terror and cliffhanger moments, all while telling a truly engaging story with rich characters,” said EPIX’s Michael Wright. “We’re thrilled to be working with John Griffin and this talented creative team to bring the series to our audience.” Jack Bender (“Mr. Mercedes”) will be directing the first four episodes of the ten-episode first season series from Epix Studios and MGM International Television Productions. Legendary rapper and occasional actor Snoop Dogg (Bones) has just been cast in a lead role in Netflix’s upcoming horror Day Shift and will star alongside Jamie Foxx who will be playing a vampire hunter. In Day Shift, Foxx plays “a hard-working, blue-collar dad who just wants to provide a good life for his quick-witted daughter, but his mundane San Fernando Valley pool cleaning job is a front for his real source of income, hunting and killing vampires as part of an international union of vampire hunters.” Scott Adkins (Doctor Strange, Vigilante), Dave Franco (The Rental), Meagan Good (Saw V, The Unborn), Eric Lange (“Lost”), Karla Souza (Jacob’s Ladder), and Zion Broadnax have also joined the cast alongside previously announced cast members Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Steve Howey, Oliver Masucci, and C.S. Season two of Netflix’s Emmy Award-winning adult animated anthology series “Love, Death & Robots,” which the streaming giant promises has an “edgy, mature vibe” for “Messed up adults,” premieres this May. The new trailer teases that the series will continue to feature the same trend of NSFW episodes that combine horror, sci-fi, and thought-provoking topics in a multitude of animated styles. This season viewers will get eight new episodes that feature other worlds, giants, terrifying beasts, robots-gone bad, and more. The series is executive produced by Tim Miller, David Fincher, Jennifer Miller, and Joshua Donen. Jennifer Yuh Nelson, who worked with Miller on Kung Fu Panda 2 and its sequel, has joined Season 2 as a director. There’s more good news, “Love, Death & Robots” has already been renewed for its third season which will premiere in 2022. Season two premieres exclusively on Netflix on May 14, 2020.

RLJE Films has snagged the North American rights to the wildly popular film Offseason, which made it world-premiere at the 2021 SXSW Film Festival. Written and Directed by Mickey Keating (Darling, Carnage Park, Psychopaths) and starring Jocelin Donahue (The House of the Devil) and Joe Swanberg (You’re Next, The Sacrament), this American Gothic horror follows a woman (Donahue) who travels to a desolate island town after receiving a mysterious letter and soon becomes trapped in a nightmare. Ahead of her return to the Scream franchise in next year’s movie simply titled Scream, Courtney Cox is set to star in the recently-announced horror-comedy series “Shining Vale,” which has now received a series order from Starz. And we’ve got the first image (via Bloody-Disgusting). “Shining Vale” centers on a dysfunctional family that moves from the city to a small town, not knowing their new home was the site of terrible atrocities. But no one seems to notice except for Pat, who’s convinced she’s either depressed or possessed— turns out, the symptoms are exactly the same. Now we can report that they will be unleashing the action-horror film, Great White this summer with a Shudder release to follow.
