Prom night, for many high school students it’s a night of celebration. However, for one particular group of high school girls, it’s a night for staging a mean spirited prank on another of their female classmates. They find her sharing an intimate moment with a young man in her class when the other girls spring into action. And everything seemed to be going as planned until the young woman, who is the intended target of their mean girl hijinks, is severely injured leaving her permanently disabled. Eight years have passed, and the group responsible for the events of that tragic prom night have been invited to a reunion at a secluded country estate. And while they all seem rather amiable towards each other, some are being quite reticent about how truly awkward this gathering is for them. During dinner the group decides to play a card game where the participants must answer truthfully the questions they are asked. The group

Pandorica Written and Directed by Tom Paton Starring – Jade Hobday, Marc Zammit, Adam Bond and Luke D’Silva The place is Earth and the time is indeterminate. What is known? An event called “The Great Reset” occurred, thus sending the surviving populace back to a more primitive way of life. A number of generations have passed in the years following the “Reset”, and many communities adapted to a tribal form of existence. One such tribe, The Varosha, are now preparing for the emergence of their new leader, and the elders of their tribe have chosen three candidates from this new generation. The chosen three must journey out with the current tribal leader to face harrowing trials that will prove the worthiness of each candidate. One of the ways indie horror filmmakers raise funds for production is through sites like Indiegogo. These campaigns are great because horror fans have the ability to not only see the film but also have an opportunity to be part of films. This month writer-director Rik Gordon is running an Indiegogo campaign in the hopes of raising funds for his upcoming short Irish horror film ‘The Wake’. The funds will go to special effects and makeup for the project and in return you will get great perks. Gordon had this to say about the film: “The Wake is a new and exciting short Irish horror film set around a traditional Irish wake. I want to create a film that will be an experience to watch; have strong, vivid characters, creepy, scary and suspenseful scenes and practical special effects with lots of blood! An Irish wake consists of a lot of strange and old traditions which I am warping into a

HEIR Written and Directed by Richard Powell Starring – Bill Oberst Jr. as Denis, Robert Nolan as Gordon and Mateo D’Avino as Paul . Everyone has desires, nobody is exempt from this. Some of these desires are beyond the pale, and are considered to be taboo or even perverse. Gordon has such a yearning he wishes to fulfill and makes arrangements with another party, so to do. What is more – he intends to involve his own son. With his son (or shall we say heir) Paul in tow, Gordon heads to the restaurant that was chosen as a meeting place. There Gordon and Paul meet Denis, who is supposedly an old friend of Gordon’s. After a quick getting to know you period, they all head Back to Denis’ house to further “socialize” That, which Denis and Gordon have planned, is unsettling. But it’s that which Gordon didn’t plan for, that is really horrific. I have never reviewed a short

Before we know it 2016 will have ended. It is time to start looking forward at the films we will see released in 2017. One of the horror films we are really looking forward to is the creepy clown film ‘Crepitus‘, directed by Haynze Whitmore and penned by Eddie Renner and Sarah Renner. Horror icon Bill Moseley (Death House,The Devil’s Rejects) is set to play the role of Crepitus, an evil entity that takes the form of a clown and has a taste for the flesh of children. Lance Paul, Raiden Moore, Jackey Hall, Mike Hard, and Caitlin Williams co-star alongside Moseley. The film centers around seventeen year old Elizabeth and her younger brother Julian, The two are about to face something even more frightening than their life with their alcoholic, abusive mother. When the family is forced to move into their grandfather’s old house the ghosts are the least of their problems. They will soon learn the horrible secrets

Expect more from your entertainment. Don’t be spoon fed. Whether film, literature, music, even video gaming…refuse to be dumbed down. As I move over the half way point in post production for “Death House” I’ve had time to reflect on the film and wonder how it will be received. The latest news on yet another “Friday the 13th” installment is it will be an origins story. I guess my question is…was there ever that much there in the first place to warrant an origin backstory? Doesn’t it defeat the point of making a simple slasher film to entertain, scare and titillate? Do we really need an origins story whether on Pamela Vorhees or Jason or how Camp Crystal Lake was founded? The Millennial Generation and after are said to be too literal. They need everything spelled out for them. They have all the information they need on their phones. Why think? Why extrapolate? Hell, why even dream? School is taught

Let’s build on Eli Roth’s prescient observation. I have written quite a bit on cynicism in filmmaking. If you are just coming to my series, stop here. Go back and read my other pieces. Then you can read this in context. However, he is talking about a SMALL percentage of fans. This is not a general description at all. We prefer to focus on the majority of horror fans that do the opposite of Roth’s comments. I have provided an open door, a very wide door, into the production of a movie since “Death House” started filming. “Death House” is my fifth feature film: the fifth I have written and the third I have directed. It’s been a long road, and frankly, I am doing what no one else is doing in Hollywood, making consistent, high quality product on very low budgets. I’ve made one film a year since doing this profession full time. “Death House” was brought to me

It was bound to happen sometime, a filmmaker capitalized on one of the most used apps of this generation SnapChat. I viewed the first ever SnapChat horror film (short) last night. The short follows a young woman getting SnapChat messages of herself sleeping while she’s home alone. From filmmaker Alex J Mann, whom’s known for shorts such as Gun, Uber Driver and Engagement written and directed this short based around being stalked by a killer though SnapChat. Mann is also the co-founder of Space Oddity Production Company a company focused on exploring the aspects of technology and culture. Here’s what I think: 3 Seconds is definitely a horror short that makes sense for this generation (not sure revalent it’ll be in 5 years when Snapchat is phased out) I’m interested in how the director will [or even if he is] expands upon it, because as it stands now it’s a great short to watch, love the “who’s there aspect”, love
