Movie Review: A Brilliant Monster is a Smart Creature Feature!

Good ol’ Mitch; he’s an mega-successful self-help author that is a seemingly endless font of new ideas…I mean who cares if his beautiful girlfriend left him because he’s a douche, and he has only like one friend in the world (and it isn’t his bedridden a-hole Daddy that lives with him). Well, the creative well does eventually run dry for our pal Mitch, as the ideas stop flowing, no matter how many dipshits he feeds to the toothy monster that lives in a room upstairs in his home. Yeah…Mitch feeds the monster, the monster spits out story ideas…tale as old as time really. Anyway, soon the local police get in on the act as the number of dead hookers and drunk girls gets to be a bit on the high side (that and the fact they actually believe the batshit story his ex-girlfriend feeds them) and things get dicey for our “hero”. A Brilliant Monster does a lot of good

Movie Review: Paranormal Farm Brings a Horror Harvest Worth Seeing!

In the latest entry in the massively saturated found footage fright flick genre, Paranormal Farm, a documentary film maker is called to an extremely rural farm to try and prove whether the location is actually haunted. He records everything (of course…wouldn’t be much of a ‘found footage’ film without any ‘footage’), and shows signs of being freaked the F out before he even enters the domicile and meets it’s salt of the Earth occupants. After a bit of investigation (and learning about the family’s tragedy) the owners leave, and our hero is left alone in the home. Wandering the grounds, he inexplicably encounters men in clown masks which continue to terrorize him further back at the homestead. After inviting the spirit to use him as a vessel…to complete success…our protagonist has had about enough of the house and all it’s bullshit, and bolts to the trailer where the owners are staying during the investigation. This leads to some shocking information…and

Movie Review: The Rizen Raises the Bar For Lovecraft Inspired Fright Flicks!

As The Rizen begins, a young woman named Frances finds herself being dragged by the arm down a long, gore soaked hallway by a gurgling, chattering, sumbitch with his head wrapped in filthy bandages. What the creature doesn’t realize is he is not dragging a normal woman…no, he is in fact dragging a powder keg of unreasonable violence that merely looks like a woman, and before long ol’ Frances is bashing beastly brains into hamburger with a rock. As she travels on she meets a scientist (neither of our heroes are certain how they ended up in this location), and the duo travel on, fighting more of the monstrous madmen as they come. As our protagonists trek ever onward they unravel some of the mystery surrounding the tunnels, and how they got there; namely a military project to utilize the occult to win the arms race…which of course went over without a single hitch. I’m just F’n with you, it

Writer-Director Larry Brand Talks ‘Young Charlie’ (Manson) & ‘Halloween: Resurrection’ In Our Interview

I had the pleasure of speaking with writer-director Larry Brand, who has written many films including Halloween: Resurrection, Paranoia, and The Girl on the Train which he also directed. Brand talked with us about his part of the Holloween franchise as well as one of his most recent projects, the second season of ‘Hollywood & Crime’, titled ‘Young Charlie’. With Charles Manson’s recent passing it is the perfect time to delve into Charles’ life. Brand has incredible insight into Manson’s past and was willing to let me pick his brain about the cult leader who left a path of destruction in his wake. Horror Fuel: “How did you come to write the Young Charlie series?” Larry Brand: “My film producing partners Rebecca Reynolds and Jim Carpenter have been producing a podcast series called Hollywood & Crime for Wondery for the last year-and-a-half. It was created it with Jon Ponder and Tracy Pattin, the host of the show. The first season

The Avant-Garde Charm Of ‘A Page Of Madness’

When we think of Japanese Horror (J Horror) we think of movies like Ju-on (‘The Grudge’) Ringu (‘The Ring’) and classics like Kwaidan but those we’re dealing with the supernatural, things that some will feel they have a zero and donuts chance of encountering or telling themselves “It’s just a movie.” But an experimental film in 1926 took everything a step further by touching on the subconscious fear of the audience, reality itself. The film, A Page of Madness was directed by Teinosuke Kinugasa and released in Japan in 1926 and was feared lost after WWII till Kinugasa rediscovered the film in 1971 in a storehouse that he hid it in. The silent film has received a lot of mix reviews, a lot of the negative ones are based on the fact that they literally don’t know what’s going on. Unlike most western silent films movie buffs are used to, Japanese silent films did not have intertitles, we now call

Movie Review: Be My Cat: A Film for Anne Will Scratch Your Found Footage Itch

Do you like found footage flicks? How about Anne Hathaway? I just know you answered “yes” to those, so let me tell ya my creeps, the picture I’n going to look at should really float your ol’ beastly boat as it definitely gets the FF chocolate dipped well in good in that Annie peanut butter…wait, that sounds off…anyway; review! Be My Cat: A Film for Anne tells the story, via a series of video diaries, of an enthusiastic young film maker named Adrian who gets it in his nutty noggin that he can score Anne Hathaway to star in his pending motion picture. In order to convince her, he shoots some footage of a few local thespians performing what he wants Anne to do in the finished picture. Well, as you would guess, it’s just ninety minutes of comely young ladies reading sides on camera…the end. Oh, wait, there’s chloroform, ropes, knives, and a plan to change the world by

Tory Jones Announces Indiegogo Campaign For Upcoming Film ‘Angel’

Joneston Films and Concept Media Films present the genre thriller Angel from award-winning writer-director Tory Jones (The Wicked One). In the film, a brutal massacre plagued the isolated and peaceful town of Raven Rock in 1986, the remaining residents fled, leaving the once tranquil community behind. For thirty years the town has been chained and walled off from the outside world while deteriorating and crumbling. However, not all has been quiet as disappearances have been attributed to the supposedly haunted town. Now a headstrong journalist and her team venture to Raven Rock to investigate the town, its history, and the missing persons. What they will discover is sometimes the truth is more disturbing than myth and Raven Rock is still being occupied. The exciting thing to me about Angel is we are developing a fully immersive world that those who experience it can get lost in. The story is gripping, the locations are surreal, and our antagonist is female. It’s
