Travis Stevens, the producer behind We Are Still Here, Cheap Thrills, and Starry Eyes makes his writing-directing debut with Girl on the Third Floor. Set to premiere at SXSW this March, the film’s festival trailer has just arrived, teasing an explosion of blood. Bursting pipes, rotting walls, and unidentifiable slime were not what Don Koch (WWE legend Phil “CM Punk” Brooks) expected when he convinced his wife Liz (Trieste Kelly Dunn of Showtime’s “Banshee” and “Applesauce”) that he could rehab their new Victorian home himself. In over his head, under duress, and tempted by his old weaknesses, Don soon discovers that the house has its own dark, sordid history and won’t be so easy to renovate after all… Also starring Sarah Brooks (We Are Still Here), Girl on the Third Floor is the debut film for newly formed Chicago-based production company QUEENSBURY PICTURES. Luca Guadagnio’s reboot of Dario Argento’s classic Suspiria opens with a young dancer in a panic in her doctor’s office speaking of a coven of witches at her dance school. After reading her journal the doctor sets out on a mission to find the girl, but is it too late? Meanwhile a young woman auditions for the school. Her natural talent shines and the witches form a devious plan. The film is very different than the original in many ways. The bright use of color in the original is replaced with a drab background. The reimaging is far more sexual with references to bestiality, masturbation and the lead character of Susie, played by Dakota Johnson, nearly constantly humping the ground or on the verge of orgasm out of the blue, but it’s not sexy in the least. While Johnson is experienced is sexual characters, she is the star of the Fifty Shades of Grey, after all, the kink feels out

Imagine you’re at work one day and by chance, they needed someone to step in and perform a task you were not trained for and you nailed it on your first try. After impressing your coworkers you keep the position and as a result, you won the highest honors for it. This is what happened to Melina Juergens, my personal pick for Women of Horror Month. German-born Melina was working as a video editor for Ninja Theory while they were in the middle of making, what would become, their multi-award-winning video game, Hellbade: Senua’s Sacrifice. When the time came to animate the title character’s movements, Melina stepped in to don the motion capture suit and perform as the game’s heroine Senua, this inadvertently became an audition. Impressing everyone, Melina was now officially playing the title role both voicing and acting out her actions via-motion capture. Adding more to it, her likeness was used for Senua forever cementing her place in

Man-oh-man, did Vincent Kirby (Michael Lebeau) ever make one hell of a shitty decision as a child. You see, ol’ V-man did nothing to stop a female thief from stealing his Dad’s cash, which had the adverse effect of making his Pa do the whole suicide bag. This lead Vincent to become a Catholic priest operating his “ministry” put of a piece of crap van in the rural south along with his brother Michael (Jacob Craig). Of course Father Vincent provides the service of taking Confession, and he pardons every sin…except stealing; anyone who admits to that wrong doing finds themselves in Deadsville courtesy of the rage of that petulant padre! Things go just peachy until a real psycho killer (must resist…Qu’est-ce que c’est…oh damn it) named Mary Francis (Trista Robinson) enters Vincent and Jacob’s lives. She of course digs their whole murder biz, but things soon become frayed between the brothers with Mary’s presence on the scene! Director Mark

Dylan (Whitney Duff) and Eddie (Daisy Masterman) are two young anarchists spray painting shit and runnin’ from the fuzz…not exactly the credentials that would lead you to believe they could stand up to a menace from beyond the stars. Speaking of which, when her intergalactic jailers fail to melt her with their caustic barf, the space criminal SheBorg (Emma-Louise Wilson) hightails it to Earth where she takes up residence at a puppy farm and turns the employees, and anyone stupid enough to trespass on the property into members of her canine flesh devouring, cellphone licking, cyborg army. Soon our counter-culture heroines, along with a dunce of a punk rocker named Rik ( Mark Entwistle) attempt to liberate those helpless pups and run afoul of the mechanical minions of that star-born femme fatale. Will they have the skills (or dumb…and I do mean “dumb” luck) necessary to defeat that tin-plated robo-bitch and save the planet…or a small patch of Australia anyway?
